Abakkus Mutual Fund has officially received approval from the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) to launch its new Specialised Investment Fund (SIF) platform, branded as ‘Fokkus’. The fund house announced this development on September 22, 2026, following SEBI’s grant of approval on August 28, 2026.
The ‘Fokkus’ platform is set to broaden Abakkus’s investment offerings, allowing it to introduce a range of strategies across equity, debt, and hybrid categories. These new offerings will adhere to the applicable regulatory frameworks and will be rolled out after the necessary filings and approvals are completed.
Understanding the SIF Framework
SEBI introduced the SIF framework on April 1, 2025. This regulatory structure enables mutual fund houses to provide differentiated investment strategies, offering greater flexibility compared to traditional mutual fund products. Crucially, it maintains the robust regulatory oversight and investor-protection principles inherent in mutual funds.
According to Abakkus, this framework is designed to give investors access to more tailored and innovative investment solutions while ensuring a regulated environment. The new structure allows fund houses to develop strategies that can adapt to evolving investor requirements and market conditions.
Abakkus's Strategic Vision for Fokkus
Sunil Singhania, Chairman and Managing Director of Abakkus, highlighted the flexibility the SIF framework provides. "The SIF framework would provide flexibility to pursue differentiated investment strategies while addressing changing investor requirements," Singhania stated. He indicated that the fund house plans to introduce its initial set of strategies under Fokkus in the coming months.
Vaibhav Chugh, CEO of Abakkus Mutual Fund, emphasized the company’s focus on robust investment processes, effective risk management, and comprehensive investor education for the new platform. Abakkus also intends to collaborate with distribution partners to ensure investors fully understand the structure, suitability, and potential role of SIFs within their portfolios.
Future Offerings and Investor Considerations
While the approval for the Abakkus SIF platform is a significant step, specific details regarding the initial strategies, their asset allocation, risk parameters, and official launch timelines have not yet been disclosed. These particulars will be announced once all required regulatory processes are complete.
Investors should be aware that, like all financial products, SIF investments carry inherent risks. These include the potential for capital loss, liquidity risk, and market volatility. Abakkus advises potential investors to consult with a qualified financial advisor before making any investment decisions.
