The selection process for the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Shri Ram Janmbhoomi Teerth Kshetra trust has entered a critical phase, with interviews for 18 shortlisted candidates beginning today, August 11, at the Ram temple premises in Ayodhya.
These candidates were chosen from an extensive pool of over 5,300 applications received for the high-profile administrative position. The interviews are scheduled to take place over two days, Tuesday and Wednesday.
Selection Panel and Responsibilities
A distinguished panel is conducting the interviews. It includes former Justice Pramod Kohli, Lieutenant General (retd) Vishnukant Chaturvedi, and scientist Suresh Haware, who previously served as chairman of the Shirdi Sai Baba Trust. The successful candidate will be tasked with significant responsibilities, primarily overseeing the administration, management, and business affairs of the Ram temple.
Strict Eligibility Criteria
The recruitment process has attracted widespread attention, with stringent eligibility conditions in place. Applicants for the CEO position must be practicing Hindus, adhere to Hindu traditions and guidelines, and be pure vegetarians and strict teetotallers. Additionally, candidates must fall within an age bracket of 50 to 70 years. Sources suggest that individuals with substantial administrative experience are likely to be preferred, given the complex scale of managing the temple and its associated operations.
Context: Strengthening Administration After Allegations
The decision to appoint a dedicated CEO comes in the wake of allegations concerning the misuse and embezzlement of Ram temple donations. These concerns emerged in early June, prompting the trust to seek a stronger administrative structure. The Uttar Pradesh government responded by forming a Special Investigation Team (SIT) on June 13 to probe the allegations.
Following the SIT's preliminary report on June 23, an FIR was registered on June 25, leading to the arrest of eight individuals. During the subsequent investigation, police recovered significant assets, including cash, gold, silver, and foreign currency, with one accused found in possession of ₹20.39 lakh.
The incoming CEO is expected to play a pivotal role in ensuring transparent and efficient management as the Ram temple continues to develop into a major religious and pilgrimage center. The conclusion of these interviews marks a significant step towards filling this crucial leadership role.
