Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (BHEL) announced a significant financial upturn, with its standalone net profit for the second quarter surging by an impressive 120.20% year-on-year. The public sector undertaking (PSU) reported a profit of ₹809.62 crore for the quarter, significantly exceeding analyst expectations, compared to ₹367.67 crore in the same period last year.

This robust performance led to a positive market reaction, with BHEL shares climbing 4.27% to reach a high of ₹460.90 on the BSE. This recent rally contributes to a cumulative 10.28% increase in BHEL's share price over the past two weeks.

Strong Sales Growth and Reduced Costs Drive Profitability

The substantial boost in BHEL's Q2 net profit was underpinned by strong operational growth. The company’s standalone sales for the quarter rose by 23.81% year-on-year, reaching ₹9,300.35 crore. This is a considerable increase from ₹7,511.80 crore reported in the corresponding quarter of the previous year.

Further contributing to the improved profitability, BHEL’s profit before tax (PBT) also saw a remarkable 119% year-on-year growth, climbing to ₹1,077.75 crore from ₹492.01 crore. This was partly facilitated by a notable reduction in finance costs, which decreased by 36.08% year-on-year, from ₹195.21 crore to ₹124.77 crore.

Market Reaction to BHEL's Performance

The positive Q2 results have instilled investor confidence, reflecting the company's efforts to enhance its financial health and operational efficiency. As a Navratna PSU, BHEL's strong earnings report highlights its resilience and potential for continued growth in India's heavy electrical equipment sector.
