Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers Ltd (GRSE), a prominent defense Public Sector Undertaking (PSU), has finalized a substantial contract with the Indian Navy for the construction of five Next Generation Corvettes (NGCs). The order is valued at Rs 32,000 crore, with deliveries anticipated over nine years and four months following the initial payment.
Significant Boost to Order Book
The contract signing follows GRSE's emergence as the L-1 bidder for the NGCs in May 2025 and subsequent successful contractual negotiations. This monumental order is expected to provide an immediate and significant boost to GRSE's existing order book, which stood at an estimated Rs 10,000 crore.
Antique Stock Broking has reiterated its 'Buy' rating for GRSE, maintaining a target price of Rs 2,990. The brokerage cited a robust execution pipeline, a healthy outlook for defense orders, and increasing opportunities in commercial shipbuilding as key factors for its positive assessment.
Future Prospects and Downstream Beneficiaries
Looking ahead, GRSE is also well-positioned for the upcoming P17B (Bravo) frigate program, which could present another substantial order opportunity. The Request for Proposal (RFP) for seven P17B frigates was released in September, with price bids expected to open in 6-8 months. This program could be valued at up to Rs 70,000 crore, and GRSE is considered a strong contender given its current execution of the P17A (Alpha) frigate order.
Several other defense sector companies are poised to benefit from GRSE's major win. Bharat Electronics Ltd (BEL) is expected to play a crucial role in providing radars, weapons, and electronics for the new corvettes. Kirloskar Oil Engines Ltd is developing a 6 MW marine engine for the Indian Navy, positioning it as a potential major supplier.
Additionally, Krishna Defence is anticipated to supply 200-400 tons of bulb bars per NGC vessel, essential for stiffening warship hulls, along with specialized naval-grade welding electrodes. The timely awarding of the P17B frigate order remains critical for sustaining GRSE's revenue growth trajectory.
