In a remarkable display of self-reliance and modern study techniques, Chhavi Sardana, a 23-year-old from Hisar, Haryana, has secured the fifth rank in the highly competitive Haryana Civil Services (HCS) examination 2025. What makes her achievement particularly noteworthy is her unconventional approach: she prepared for the exam through self-study, without enrolling in any coaching institutes, and notably utilized artificial intelligence tool ChatGPT as a key resource.
A Modern Approach to Competitive Exams
Sardana, who scored 385.80 out of 675 marks, leveraged ChatGPT primarily to understand complex subjects and gather information efficiently. This innovative method allowed her to navigate the vast syllabus of the HCS examination while pursuing her BA LLB degree in Patiala. Her success underscores a growing trend where digital tools are transforming traditional study paradigms, offering accessible alternatives to expensive coaching.
Dedication and Discipline
Despite her initial aspiration to become a lawyer, Sardana harbored a dream of joining the civil services. She dedicated approximately eight hours daily to her preparation, typically starting between 6 am and 7 am. Her disciplined routine also included a complete disconnection from social media platforms like Facebook and Instagram, ensuring focused study time.
According to Sardana, consistent preparation, effective time management, and unwavering dedication were pivotal to her success. She is the first in her family to secure a government officer position; her father, Chirag Sardana, runs a printing press, and her mother, Suman Sardana, is a homemaker.
The HCS Examination Journey
The Haryana Civil Services examination 2025 saw approximately 60,000 candidates participate in its initial stage. The first stage of the examination was held in April, followed by the second stage in June. Interviews for the final selection were conducted at the commission's office in Panchkula from October 3 to 8.
Chhavi Sardana's success has brought joy and pride to her family and community in Dogran Mohalla, Hisar, with relatives and well-wishers flocking to congratulate her. While she awaits results for the Punjab Civil Services (PCS) and Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) examinations, Sardana has expressed her commitment to prioritizing her responsibilities in Haryana.
