Hindustan Copper Stock Dips 31% from Peak Despite Stellar Q1 Earnings

· · 2 min read

State-owned Hindustan Copper reported a 162% surge in Q1 net profit to Rs 352 crore and an 81% rise in revenue. Despite strong earnings and multi-year returns, the stock has fallen 31% from its January 2026 record high.

Shares of Hindustan Copper Limited (HCL), India's sole vertically integrated copper producer, experienced a 2% dip on Monday, closing at Rs 526.75 following the announcement of its first-quarter earnings. This recent decline places the state-owned enterprise's stock 31% below its record high of Rs 759.20, achieved on January 29, 2026.

Strong Q1 Performance Despite Stock Dip

Despite the recent stock pullback, Hindustan Copper reported a robust financial performance for the June quarter. The company's net profit soared by an impressive 162% year-on-year, reaching Rs 352 crore, compared to Rs 134 crore in the same period last year. Quarterly revenue also saw a significant increase, climbing 81% to Rs 937 crore from Rs 516 crore a year ago. This revenue growth was largely attributed to a global rise in copper prices.

Operating profitability also showed substantial improvement, with Earnings Before Interest, Taxes, Depreciation, and Amortization (EBITDA) surging 139% year-on-year to Rs 508 crore, up from Rs 212 crore. Concurrently, the EBITDA margin expanded to 54.19% in the first quarter, a notable increase from 41.05% in the previous year.

Long-Term Returns Remain Impressive

While the stock has seen a recent correction, its long-term performance remains a highlight for investors. Hindustan Copper has delivered a remarkable 787% return over the past ten years and a 255% return over the last three years. In the past year alone, the shares have appreciated by 122%.

However, it is worth noting that the Q1 net profit of Rs 352 crore represented a 20% decrease when compared to the Rs 444.27 crore reported in the fourth quarter of the previous fiscal year (FY26).
