Hyundai Motor India Ltd. is gearing up for the official launch of its new mid-size SUV, the Bayon, on October 26. This new vehicle, positioned between the Creta and Venue models, marks Hyundai's latest offering in the competitive SUV segment. While pre-bookings for the Bayon are currently open, the automaker expects deliveries to commence around the Diwali festival period.

Powertrain and Performance

The Hyundai Bayon will be powered by a robust 1.5L MPi four-cylinder petrol engine. This engine is engineered to produce 84.4 kW (equivalent to 115 PS) of maximum power and 143.8 Nm of peak torque. Hyundai stated that this powerplant is designed to deliver smooth, responsive, and refined performance across various driving conditions. The company has a strong track record with this engine, having sold over 6 lakh vehicles equipped with it since 2020.

Notably, the Bayon will not offer a diesel powertrain option. However, Hyundai has indicated plans to introduce a Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) variant at a later date, catering to diverse customer preferences and fuel efficiency demands.

Transmission and Drive Technologies

Buyers of the Hyundai Bayon will have a choice between a 6-speed Manual Transmission (6MT) and an Intelligent Variable Transmission (iVT). The iVT system is designed to integrate seamlessly with several performance-enhancing technologies to provide a more refined and engaging driving experience.

  • Dash Boost Mode: This feature provides an instant power boost and heightened responsiveness for quicker acceleration, aiding in efficient overtaking maneuvers.
  • Sporty Drive Tech: Engineered to deliver a more dynamic and connected acceleration feel, enhancing driver involvement.
  • Paddle Shifters: Offer manual control over gear changes, adding to the sporty driving experience.
  • Selectable Drive Modes: The Bayon includes three distinct drive modes, accessible via a steering-mounted button:
    • Eco Mode: Optimized for maximum fuel efficiency.
    • Normal Mode: Balances performance and efficiency for everyday commuting.
    • Sport Mode: Delivers a more responsive and dynamic driving experience.

These features collectively allow drivers to tailor the vehicle's behavior to their personal preferences and prevailing road conditions, promising a versatile and enjoyable ride with the new Hyundai Bayon SUV.
