Jio Platforms Ltd. is reportedly witnessing significant interest for its proposed initial public offering (IPO), with bids for its anchor book exceeding $20 billion. This strong demand positions the offering to potentially become India’s largest IPO, according to a Bloomberg report citing sources familiar with the matter.
Valuation and Fundraising Targets
The digital services arm of Reliance Industries is targeting a valuation of up to Rs 10.3 lakh crore ($108 billion). Earlier expectations had placed the valuation as high as $170 billion. Based on Bloomberg calculations, the IPO could raise more than Rs 30,200 crore at the upper end of its anticipated price band, which was previously reported between Rs 1,065 and Rs 1,119 per share.
It is important to note that the IPO process is still ongoing, and no final decisions or official announcements have been made regarding the anchor investors or the overall offering details.
Leadership and Investor Engagement
Akash Ambani, the 34-year-old managing director of Jio Platforms and son of Mukesh Ambani, has been spearheading the deal. He has actively engaged with potential investors, conducting roadshows and meetings in major financial hubs such as Hong Kong, London, and New York in recent weeks.
During these investor interactions, Ambani and his team faced inquiries regarding the company's valuation targets and its strategies for monetizing its various digital services and platforms. Global investment firms, including Fidelity, Allianz, and Capital Group, along with other international and domestic entities, have reportedly shown interest in the offering. The final roster of anchor investors is expected to be finalized soon.
IPO Structure and Existing Investors
The share sale is anticipated to open next week, with the IPO planned to conclude before October 30. The draft prospectus indicates that the offering will consist entirely of a primary issue. None of Jio Platforms' existing high-profile investors, which include Meta Platforms, Alphabet, Mubadala, and Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund, are looking to sell their shares in this IPO.
Representatives for Reliance Industries Ltd., Jio's parent company, and Fidelity did not respond to requests for comment, while Allianz and Capital Group declined to comment on the matter.
