Jio Platforms IPO Fuels India to Top Global IPO Market in October with Record $4.8 Billion

· · 2 min read

India secured its position as the world's leading IPO market in October 2026, raising a record Rs 45,500 crore ($4.8 billion). This surge was significantly driven by Jio Platforms Ltd.'s Rs 30,200 crore share sale, India's largest-ever initial public offering.

India cemented its position as the world's leading market for Initial Public Offerings (IPOs) in October 2026, according to a recent Bloomberg report. The nation successfully raised a staggering Rs 45,500 crore, equivalent to $4.8 billion, through new listings during the month, significantly outperforming other major global markets.

Jio Platforms Drives Record Fundraising

A substantial portion of this unprecedented fundraising was attributed to the mega share sale by Jio Platforms Ltd. The telecom and digital services arm, backed by billionaire Mukesh Ambani, successfully mobilised Rs 30,200 crore, marking it as India's largest-ever IPO. This offering garnered considerable demand from both institutional and individual investors, even amidst a generally weaker equity market.

The strong performance of the India IPO market in October saw it surpass fundraising totals from economic powerhouses like the United States and Hong Kong. US IPOs collected $2.1 billion during the month, while Hong Kong recorded $1.5 billion, as per Bloomberg data. India also led globally in the sheer volume of new listings, with approximately 40 companies going public.

Market Recovery and Future Outlook

This record-breaking month signals a robust recovery for India's primary market. Earlier in the year, the market had lagged behind other global counterparts, which saw significant issuance activity, particularly from companies within the artificial intelligence supply chain. The pace of IPO activity in India accelerated notably in the latter half of 2026, with major offerings from Jio Platforms and the National Stock Exchange of India Ltd. contributing to this turnaround.

With October's strong showing, India's total IPO fundraising for 2026 has now reached approximately $18.26 billion. This positions the country within striking distance of its all-time annual record of $22.36 billion, achieved in 2025. The impressive absorption capacity demonstrated by the Indian market for an offering of Jio's scale is expected to encourage other companies that have been awaiting opportune moments to proceed with their listing plans.

A Robust Pipeline for 2027

Looking ahead, the pipeline for public markets appears strong. Bloomberg reports that around 113 companies have already secured regulatory approval for their IPOs, with an additional 115 having submitted draft prospectuses. This substantial pipeline suggests that the momentum in fundraising activity is likely to continue well into 2027, promising a dynamic period for India's financial landscape.
