About Jio Platforms

Incorporated in 2019, Jio Platforms has rapidly established itself as a leader in India's digital landscape. The company focuses on developing proprietary digital technologies and building a pan-India connectivity infrastructure to deliver a wide array of digital services to both consumers and businesses.

Grey Market Premium Update

The grey market premium (GMP) for Jio Platforms shares has seen a slight correction amidst general market sentiments. While initially around Rs 280 on the first day, the GMP was last heard to be in the range of Rs 240-250 per share. This suggests a potential listing gain of approximately 21-22 percent for investors.

Analyst Perspectives on Jio Platforms

Many brokerage firms have expressed positive views on the Jio Platforms IPO, citing several factors:

  • Market leadership position
  • Potential for Average Revenue Per User (ARPU) growth and tariff hikes
  • Expansion opportunities in 5G and broadband services
  • Attractive valuations
  • Strong cash flow generation
  • Scope for debt reduction following the IPO

However, analysts also highlighted key concerns, including dependence on ARPU growth, regulatory uncertainties, high capital expenditure requirements, and competitive pressures within the telecom sector.

Jio’s valuation is justified by its market leadership, improving monetisation, strong cash flow generation, and substantial long-term optionality beyond its core telecom business. IPO-led deleveraging is expected to further strengthen the balance sheet.

While the near-term upside may be moderated by the premium valuation, the monetisation of cloud, AI, enterprise solutions, entertainment, digital platforms, and fixed broadband services could emerge as key drivers of earnings growth over the medium to long term. We recommend 'subscribe' for investors with a medium- to long-term investment horizon.

— Geojit Investments

Jio comes to market at an 18 per cent earnings discount to the listed leader, with a larger Indian franchise, faster growth and its capex cycle behind it. The price needs only the earnings growth Jio has already delivered to earn a double-digit return. Tariffs, debt reduction and home broadband are upside on top of that.
