Several major automobile manufacturers in India, including JSW MG Motor, BMW Group India, Kia India, and Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles, have announced price increases for their vehicles effective July 1. These adjustments are largely attributed to rising input costs and broader macroeconomic challenges.
JSW MG Motor Leads Latest Hikes
JSW MG Motor India will implement a price hike of up to 3% across its entire vehicle lineup, encompassing both internal combustion engine (ICE) and electric models. Popular vehicles like the Astor, Hector, Majestor, Comet EV, Windsor EV, Cyberster, and M9 will see revised ex-showroom prices nationwide from the start of July.
Broader Industry Adjustments
The move by JSW MG Motor follows a series of similar announcements from other prominent carmakers:
- BMW Group India: The luxury automaker will increase prices by up to 2% across its BMW and MINI vehicle ranges, also effective July 1. Hardeep Singh Brar, President and CEO, BMW Group India, stated the adjustment is necessary to protect premium standards against macroeconomic headwinds, specifically rupee depreciation and escalating logistics costs.
- Kia India: The South Korean carmaker announced a price revision of up to 2% across its model range, also taking effect on July 1.
- Hyundai Motor India: Kia's sister company implemented a price hike of up to Rs 12,800 from June 1, citing rising input costs as the primary reason.
- Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Ltd: India’s third-largest carmaker by volume will increase prices for its passenger vehicle portfolio, including both ICE and EV models, by up to 1.5% from July 1. This marks the second price hike for Tata Motors in 2026, following a 0.5% increase on April 1. The company stated this revision is to partially offset the impact of rising input costs and sustained inflationary pressures.
- Maruti Suzuki India Ltd: The country's largest carmaker by volume raised prices by up to Rs 30,000 from June, after delaying the decision for several months.
The extent of these price increases will vary across different models and variants, reflecting the diverse cost structures and market positioning of each vehicle.
