Shares of infrastructure developer PNC Infratech Ltd. are in focus today after the Delhi High Court delivered a significant interim relief to the company. The court has stayed the debarment orders previously imposed by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) on PNC Infratech and its special purpose vehicle (SPV), Awadh Expressway Pvt. Ltd.
Court Provides Interim Relief
In an exchange filing, PNC Infratech confirmed that the Delhi High Court's decision, issued on Tuesday evening, October 13, 2026, effectively stays the debarment orders. These orders were originally issued by NHAI on September 3 and September 11, 2026. The company emphasized that, with this interim relief, its business operations and those of its subsidiaries would continue without interruption.
Background of NHAI's Action
The court's intervention follows a series of actions initiated by NHAI in August 2026. At that time, NHAI had issued a notice proposing to classify PNC Infratech as a “non-performer.” Such a classification would have rendered the company ineligible to bid for future NHAI projects. Subsequently, NHAI issued a show-cause notice and then debarred PNC Infratech and its concessionaire from participating in projects tendered by NHAI and the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways for a period of three years.
The debarment imposed on the concessionaire, Awadh Expressway Pvt. Ltd., had also been extended to PNC Infratech by the authority.
Company Outlook and Financial Implications
PNC Infratech stated it would disclose any financial implications arising from this matter in due course, if applicable. The company separately reported a steady performance in the first quarter, with Earnings Before Interest, Tax, Depreciation, and Amortisation (EBITDA) rising by 42.6% year-on-year. Its EBITDA margin also expanded by over 500 basis points compared to the same period last year.
Despite the positive court order, proceedings related to a show-cause notice concerning the Kanpur-Lucknow Expressway project remain pending. Investors will closely monitor further legal developments and their potential long-term impact on PNC Infratech’s eligibility for future highway projects.
