Rajinikanth's latest blockbuster, 'Jailer 2', continues its strong box office performance, having accumulated an impressive ₹765.15 crore worldwide by the close of its second week. The film, a commercial actioner, is now firmly setting its sights on the elite ₹800 crore global collection mark.
This significant achievement has already seen 'Jailer 2' dethrone '2.0' to become the highest-grossing Tamil film in history. However, a new challenge looms large: the impending release of Ranbir Kapoor's much-anticipated mythological epic, 'Ramayana'. The big question for 'Jailer 2' is not just if it will reach ₹800 crore, but if it can do so before 'Ramayana' storms the theaters and potentially shifts the box office conversation.
'Jailer 2' Box Office Performance Detailed
According to film trade portal Sacnilk, 'Jailer 2' recorded a robust ₹334.35 crore at the India box office in its opening week. Its second-week performance in India saw collections of ₹14.50 crore on Friday, ₹24.15 crore on Saturday, ₹25.70 crore on Sunday, ₹9.45 crore on Monday, ₹8.30 crore on Tuesday, ₹7.20 crore on Wednesday, and ₹5.90 crore on Thursday. This brings the film's total India net collection to ₹429.55 crore.
Globally, 'Jailer 2' has also performed exceptionally well, earning ₹262.50 crore from overseas markets. This combined domestic and international haul brings its worldwide collection to the aforementioned ₹765.15 crore, pushing it closer to the ₹800 crore milestone.
The ₹800 Crore Club and the 'Ramayana' Challenge
Should 'Jailer 2' successfully cross the ₹800 crore worldwide benchmark, it would join an exclusive list of films, including Vicky Kaushal and Rashmika Mandanna-starrer 'Chhaava' (₹807.91 crore), Rishab Shetty-led 'Kantara: A Legend Chapter 1' (₹852.36 crore), and Ranbir Kapoor and Rashmika Mandanna-starrer 'Animal' (₹915 crore).
Meanwhile, 'Ramayana' is rapidly gaining momentum, particularly in advance bookings. The film has already garnered over $2.5 million (approximately ₹24 crore) in overseas advance bookings, despite a restricted rollout in India. North America leads with around $1.9 million, boosted by paid previews. The UK and Ireland contributed roughly $268,000, followed by Australia and New Zealand at approximately $248,000.
In India, 'Ramayana's' first-day ticket sales have already surpassed ₹17 crore, with around 3.33 lakh tickets sold across 6,780 shows, according to Sacnilk. With just seven days remaining until its release, the competition for box office dominance is intensifying. Every crore now counts for 'Jailer 2' in its race against time before the mythological epic captures the audience's attention.
