In a significant announcement from the Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) meeting, Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Governor Sanjay Malhotra revealed an optimistic outlook for India's economic growth. The central bank has revised its real Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth projection for the current year to 6.7%, a 10 basis point increase from the previous estimate of 6.6%.
Governor Malhotra attributed this upward revision primarily to the Indian economy's stronger-than-expected performance during the first quarter. While the overall picture is positive, he cautioned about potential unfavourable impacts on the agricultural sector in the upcoming quarter, suggesting that vigilance remains crucial.
Quarterly Growth Projections Updated
The RBI also provided updated quarterly growth outcomes, reflecting the improved economic momentum:
- Q1: Revised to 7% from an earlier projection of 6.6%
- Q2: Adjusted to 6.4% from 6.3%
- Q3: Maintained at 6.5%
- Q4: Maintained at 6.8%
These projections underscore the RBI's assessment of sustained economic resilience, even as it acknowledges specific sector-based challenges. The central bank continues to monitor economic indicators closely to ensure stability and foster sustainable growth.
