Sigma Advanced Systems Ltd, a prominent defence and aerospace company, has announced an exclusive Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Munitions India Ltd (MIL), a defence public sector enterprise. The collaboration focuses on the integration, indigenous manufacturing, and supply of advanced course-correction fuzes for 155 mm artillery ammunition.
The partnership extends to associated components, subsystems, and technologies crucial for enhancing India's defence capabilities. This strategic alliance is designed to advance indigenous precision-guided artillery solutions within the country through a comprehensive approach involving technology transfer, qualification, local manufacturing, and integration.
Boosting Indigenous Defence Technology
According to a company press release, the program will leverage a Course Correction Guidance Kit developed by Sigma Advanced Systems, a mature solution already utilized by international clients. This initiative is also set to support critical ongoing programs of the Indian military, significantly contributing to the 'Atmanirbhar Bharat' (Self-Reliant India) vision.
Course-correction technology enables artillery projectiles to adjust their trajectories mid-flight, dramatically improving accuracy and operational effectiveness. Developing domestic capabilities in this specialized segment is expected to reduce India's dependence on imported solutions, thereby strengthening the nation's defence technology ecosystem.

Sunil Kalidindi, CEO of Sigma Advanced Systems, emphasized the significance of the collaboration. "The collaboration with Munitions India Limited marks an important step in advancing indigenous precision-guided artillery capabilities in India," Kalidindi stated.
He further added that combining Sigma's engineering and program execution strengths with MIL's established ammunition manufacturing capabilities will be instrumental in developing domestic expertise in this strategically vital defence sector.
