The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has officially declared the results for the Civil Services (Main) Examination 2026, ending a period of intense anticipation for thousands of aspirants nationwide. A total of 2,526 candidates have successfully cleared the rigorous written examination, earning them a coveted call for the Personality Test – the final stage in securing a position within prestigious services such as the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Foreign Service (IFS), and Indian Police Service (IPS).

Key Numbers and Competition

The written examinations for the Civil Services Mains 2026 were conducted between August 21 and August 30, 2026. Out of 13,343 candidates who had initially passed the Preliminary Examination earlier this year, approximately 18.9% navigated the challenging descriptive papers to reach the interview stage. These 2,526 shortlisted candidates will now compete for an estimated 933 available posts across various Central Civil Services.

This year's shortlist indicates a tighter competition ratio compared to recent years. In 2025, UPSC called 2,736 candidates for interviews against 958 final vacancies, while 2024 saw 2,845 candidates shortlisted for 1,056 posts. The current figures closely align with the 2022 examination cycle, when 2,529 candidates advanced to the Personality Test for 1,011 vacancies.

Next Steps: Personality Test and Application Updates

The Personality Test will be held at the UPSC headquarters, Dholpur House, located on Shahjahan Road in New Delhi. While the precise interview schedule is yet to be released, UPSC has confirmed that individual e-Summon Letters will be made available on its official website. Candidates should note that no physical summon letters will be dispatched via postal mail.

Following the declaration of results, the Commission has mandated that all qualified candidates complete or update their necessary details on the online portal. This application submission window will open on November 11, 2026, and will remain active until 6:00 PM IST on November 25, 2026. It is crucial for candidates to verify their details online, irrespective of whether updates are required. Additionally, qualified candidates must submit an online attestation form on the Department of Personnel and Training (DoP&T) portal once the interview process officially begins.
