The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has made distinct accommodation arrangements for its men's and women's cricket teams participating in the 2026 Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan.
Men's Team Secures Private Hotel
The Indian men's cricket squad will reside in a separate, privately arranged hotel, a decision driven primarily by the team's larger contingent size, which includes extensive support staff. BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia explained to The Times of India that the board's aim was to keep the entire group together throughout the tournament, avoiding segregation.
Concerns over the adequacy of rooms initially allotted for the men's team, particularly regarding space for players' kit bags, also influenced this decision. Furthermore, the 2026 Asian Games is not featuring a traditional Athletes' Village; participants are housed across various accommodations including hotels, cruise ships, and container-based facilities.
Women's Team Stays in Official Facilities
In contrast, the Indian women's cricket team will occupy accommodation provided by the Games organizing committee. According to Saikia, the women's contingent comprises 20 members, a number that falls within the permissible limits set by the organizers for official facilities.
Despite some broader concerns raised about the quality of the cricket ground and other logistical arrangements, the BCCI secretary affirmed the board's confidence in the local organizing committee's ability to deliver suitable facilities at the match venues.
Tournament Progress
The Indian women's cricket team commenced its Asian Games 2026 campaign with a victory against hosts Japan in the quarter-finals on September 18. They are set to face Sri Lanka in the final on September 22, competing for the gold medal.
The men's team will enter the tournament at the quarter-final stage, with their first match scheduled for September 28. The men's semi-finals are slated for October 1, followed by the bronze-medal match and the final on October 3. Both Indian cricket teams are defending their gold medals from the previous 2022 Asian Games in Hangzhou.
