The Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) has taken decisive action, formally initiating an investigation into serious corruption allegations linked to the recently concluded Delhi Premier League (DPL). In a statement issued on Tuesday, the DDCA clarified that while the claims are currently “unverified,” they are being treated with utmost seriousness and will undergo a thorough examination.
DDCA officials have emphasized that no conclusions should be drawn about any players or franchises until a competent authority establishes the merit of these allegations. The association has communicated with relevant authorities, including the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), sharing available information and offering to provide evidence, such as video footage, if requested.
Background to the Allegations
The controversy stems from a sting operation that reportedly implicated former Ranji Trophy player Rachit Bhatia. Bhatia is alleged to have offered insider information, specifically concerning a team's playing XI, before its official announcement during the DPL. The claims reportedly link to Game 7 of the DPL 2026, a match between the Central Delhi Kings and North Delhi Strikers held at the Arun Jaitley Stadium.
Furthermore, the investigation reportedly includes wider, unverified assertions from Bhatia regarding alleged fixing in Indian Premier League (IPL) matches and spot-fixing during the 2018–19 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. The DDCA has stressed that all these claims remain unproven and will be subject to a rigorous investigative process.
DDCA's Stance and Future Actions
DDCA secretary Ashok Sharma confirmed the association's commitment to due process. "Given the seriousness of the matter, DDCA has written to the respective authorities and shared the information that has come to its notice, requesting that the matter be examined through the appropriate established processes," the DDCA stated. The association affirmed that any disciplinary action will strictly adhere to the findings of these authorities and applicable rules.
