Amazon Unveils New Android Tablets with Alexa+ AI & Google Play, But There's a Catch

· · 3 min read

Amazon's latest Android tablets integrate Alexa+ AI and Google Play Store access, offering upgraded hardware across three new models. However, these devices will not launch in India initially, and some features require subscriptions.

Amazon has unveiled a new lineup of Android tablets, marking a significant shift in its device strategy. These updated tablets integrate the company's Alexa+ AI assistant, offer full access to the Google Play Store, and boast upgraded hardware across three distinct models. While promising enhanced flexibility and a wider app ecosystem, there are several key details prospective buyers should consider.

New Features and Models

The new range includes three primary models: the flagship Amazon Alexa Tablet 12 Pro, the Amazon Alexa Tablet 11, and the more portable Amazon Alexa Tablet 8. Each is designed to cater to different user needs, from productivity to entertainment.

  • Amazon Alexa Tablet 12 Pro: This premium model features a 12-inch, 120Hz refresh rate display, powered by a 4nm octa-core processor and up to 16GB of RAM. It supports Wi-Fi 6E and includes quad Dolby Atmos speakers, offering up to 16 hours of video playback. Optional accessories like a Nanomatte display (reducing glare), a Pro Pen, and a magnetic Pro Keyboard enhance its productivity capabilities.
  • Amazon Alexa Tablet 11: Equipped with an 11-inch 2.5K display and a 90Hz refresh rate, this model comes with 8GB of RAM and provides up to 15 hours of video playback.
  • Amazon Alexa Tablet 8: The most compact of the trio, it features an 8.7-inch display, weighs just 329 grams, and offers Wi-Fi 6 with up to 14 hours of video playback.

All three tablets run on Android and provide access to the extensive Google Play Store, meaning users can download popular apps such as YouTube, Netflix, Gmail, and Google Docs directly. The integrated Alexa+ AI offers voice assistance, with optional on-screen intelligence features available, though these are off by default.

Dedicated Kids Tablets and Pricing

Amazon is also expanding its offerings with dedicated Kids tablets, which come bundled with protective cases, a one-year Kids+ subscription, the Storybuilder feature, and an updated Parent Dashboard for greater control.

Pricing for the new tablets is as follows:

  • Tablet 12 Pro: Starts at $499.99 (Nanomatte version at $549.99)
  • Tablet 11: $329.99
  • Tablet 8: Starts at $229.99

Optional accessories include the Pro Keyboard for $149.99 and the Pro Pen for $89.99.

The Catch: Availability and Subscriptions

While these new Amazon Android tablets bring substantial improvements, there are important caveats for potential international buyers. As of October 9, 2026, Amazon has not announced an India launch for these devices.

Initial shipping will commence on October 14 in the US, Mexico, and Canada, followed by the UK, Germany, France, Italy, and Spain on October 19. Japan will receive the Kids tablets starting October 14.

Furthermore, accessing the full Alexa+ functionality requires either an Amazon Prime membership or a separate subscription. For models that display lock-screen advertisements, users can opt to remove them for a one-time fee of $20. The highest-priced tablet model is exempt from these ads.
