Apple Extends Siri AI to Older Apple TV 4K Models; Original HomePod Mini Excluded

· · 2 min read

Apple is bringing its enhanced Siri AI experience to second, third, and fourth-generation Apple TV 4K devices via the upcoming tvOS 27.2 update. However, the original HomePod mini will not receive this AI upgrade, a correction to earlier reports.

Apple is rolling out its advanced Siri AI capabilities to a broader range of its smart home devices, including older Apple TV 4K models. This significant upgrade aims to make the voice assistant more conversational and useful for entertainment discovery, but not all existing products will be compatible.

Siri AI Arrives for Apple TV 4K Generations

The second, third, and fourth-generation Apple TV 4K devices are confirmed to receive the new Siri AI features. This update will be delivered through the upcoming tvOS 27.2 software, allowing current owners to access enhanced functionalities without needing to purchase the latest hardware. The upgrade is designed to revolutionize entertainment searches, enabling users to ask more natural language questions about movies and shows, request recommendations, and locate specific content without precise titles. Siri AI will facilitate content discovery through conversational requests, simplifying navigation across streaming libraries.

Apple has indicated that the Siri AI update will be available in English across India and other supported markets, delivered purely via software. This ensures that compatible older Apple TV 4K users can benefit from the enhanced assistant.

Original HomePod Mini Misses Out on Siri AI

While many Apple devices are gaining new AI features, the original HomePod mini will not be among them. This clarification comes after an initial report from CNET suggested the first-generation smart speaker would receive the upgrade. Apple has since confirmed that Siri AI support is limited to the HomePod mini 2 and Apple TV 4K models from the second generation onwards.

The newer HomePod mini 2 will gain Siri AI functionality through a future software update, not at its initial launch. This distinction is crucial for consumers considering an upgrade or expecting the feature on their existing first-generation HomePod mini. Hardware compatibility remains a key factor for accessing Apple's latest AI-powered assistant features.
