· · 2 min read

Equal AI, the automated call screening application, is seeking new funding that could value the company at up to $1 billion. Founder Keshav Reddy aims to increase monthly active users fourfold to 15 million by March, tapping into India's tech growth.

Equal AI, the automated call screening application designed to rival Truecaller, is pursuing a new funding round that could push its valuation to between $750 million and $1 billion. This ambitious target comes as the startup aims to significantly boost its user base, targeting 15 million monthly active users by March, a fourfold increase from its current levels.

Founder Keshav Reddy confirmed the company has received early interest for this growth-stage funding, contingent on achieving its user milestones. Reddy shared these details during the Bloomberg New Economy Forum in New Delhi, highlighting Equal AI's strategic positioning to benefit from Prime Minister Narendra Modi's emphasis on fostering homegrown technology.

Strategic Growth and Funding Utilization

Launched last year, Equal AI has already secured over $42 million across two funding rounds, primarily led by Prosus Ventures. The company is now expanding its offerings into AI messaging, leveraging India's substantial engineering talent pool and vast consumer demand.

The capital raised from the new funding round will be primarily allocated to enhancing AI infrastructure and driving user acquisition efforts. A portion will also be dedicated to ongoing product development and expanding the team through strategic hiring.

Navigating the AI Investment Landscape

While the global buildout of artificial intelligence has attracted hundreds of billions in investments and fueled a wave of new startups, the initial enthusiasm has been tempered by concerns over a potential market bubble. Investors are increasingly scrutinizing high capital expenditures and valuations within the AI sector.

For AI-focused startups like Equal AI, maintaining momentum and meeting aggressive growth targets are crucial to mitigating the risk of a funding squeeze in an evolving investment climate.
