Vedanta's Anil Agarwal Praises Samsung's Record $80 Billion Profit Amid AI Chip Boom

· · 2 min read

Vedanta Chairman Anil Agarwal lauded Samsung Electronics for its record $80.2 billion operating profit in Q3 2026. He cited the tech giant's continuous innovation and diversification, particularly benefiting from strong demand for advanced AI memory chips.

Vedanta Chairman Anil Agarwal has publicly commended South Korean electronics giant Samsung Electronics for its exceptional financial performance, reporting a record quarterly operating profit of approximately $80.2 billion (107.4 trillion South Korean won) for the July-September quarter of 2026. Agarwal attributed Samsung's success to its relentless pursuit of innovation, strategic business diversification, and an impressive ability to adapt to evolving market demands.

In a post shared on X (formerly Twitter), Agarwal highlighted Samsung's remarkable journey from a humble trading company to a global leader in technology manufacturing. He emphasized the company's significant contribution to job creation across various countries, including India, and underscored the importance of businesses maintaining ambition even after achieving considerable success.

Samsung's Unprecedented Profit Surge

Samsung Electronics' estimated operating profit of $80.2 billion for Q3 2026 marks an almost ninefold increase compared to the 12.2 trillion won reported in the same period last year. The company also projected sales at 195 trillion won, reflecting a substantial 126.6% year-on-year growth. These figures underscore the critical and expanding role of semiconductor manufacturing, driven largely by the global expansion of artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure.

The surge in demand for advanced memory chips, which are indispensable components for AI data centers and sophisticated computing systems, has led to industry-wide supply shortages and a subsequent rise in prices. As the world's largest memory-chip maker, Samsung has been a primary beneficiary of this trend, with these preliminary financial estimates marking its fourth consecutive quarter of record-breaking performance.

Anil Agarwal on Samsung's Evolutionary Path

Reflecting on Samsung's storied history, Agarwal noted that its growth trajectory distinguishes it from many US technology companies that were founded with an immediate tech focus. He described Samsung's evolution as "very amazing," pointing out its origins as a trading firm that later diversified into textiles and food processing.

The company subsequently ventured into consumer electronics, producing items like air conditioners and mobile phones, before establishing itself as a dominant force in cutting-edge memory chips. Agarwal also praised Samsung's role in generating extensive employment opportunities in South Korea and other nations, including India, and highlighted the substantial participation of women in its workforce.

Agarwal presented Samsung as a prime example of how companies can remain dynamic and continuously seek new opportunities, even after reaching considerable heights. He concluded with an encouraging message: "Keep growing and innovating. Nothing is impossible."
