Elon Musk's social media platform X has announced the appointment of Peter Sellis, a former corporate vice president at Microsoft AI, as its new Head of Product. The move, effective as of October 27, 2026, sees Sellis taking over from Nikita Bier, who stepped down after more than a year in the role but will remain as an advisor temporarily.
Sellis brings a wealth of experience in building consumer technology products, with a distinguished career spanning several major tech companies. His primary focus at X will be to accelerate the platform's momentum and enhance its utility for current users, new users, and businesses worldwide.
Sellis's Extensive Tech Background
Before joining X, Peter Sellis served as Corporate Vice President of Design, Engineering, and Growth at Microsoft AI. His prior roles include Senior Vice President of Product at Discord, where he oversaw product strategy and contributed significantly to user growth cycles between 2022 and 2026.
Notably, Sellis was also the first product manager at Snap (Snapchat), spending over seven years with the company from 2015 to 2022. During his tenure, he played a pivotal role in establishing Snapchat's monetization systems, leading the revenue product team from its inception to a multi-billion dollar business. His executive and product experience also extends to venture studio Science Inc., influencer network HelloSociety, and video streaming company Ustream.
Vision for X's Future
In an X post announcing his new position, Sellis outlined his priorities, stating, “X is the best way to find out what’s happening in the world right now and talk about it. My goal is to help accelerate that momentum for our community, new users, and businesses globally by continuing to make this product beautiful and useful.” This statement underscores his commitment to refining the user experience and expanding the platform’s appeal.
Leadership Transition at X
The transition follows Nikita Bier’s decision to step down as Head of Product. Bier, who joined X in 2025, announced his departure in August 2026. Elon Musk publicly thanked Bier for his contributions, acknowledging his role in improving the platform. Sellis's appointment marks a significant shift in X's product leadership as the company continues to evolve under Musk's vision.
