YouTube Rolls Out Custom Feeds for Personalized Recommendations

· · 2 min read

YouTube is introducing Custom Feeds, a new feature empowering users to create tailored recommendation streams based on specific interests. This innovation allows viewers to move beyond a single, constantly changing Home feed.

YouTube is enhancing user control over content discovery with the rollout of Custom Feeds. This new feature allows viewers to create personalized recommendation streams, moving beyond the traditional Home feed that primarily relies on watch history and general viewing habits.

Greater Control Over Your YouTube Experience

With Custom Feeds, users can now generate and save multiple, distinct feeds, each dedicated to different interests, moods, or routines. This functionality builds on an earlier experiment where YouTube tested an AI chatbot to help a limited group of users articulate their content preferences.

How Custom Feeds Work

The system leverages conversational prompts, enabling users to describe the type of content they wish to see. For example, a user could create a feed specifically for:

  • Long-form documentaries for evening viewing.
  • DIY creator content for weekend projects.
  • Podcasts suitable for a daily commute.

These specialized feeds will appear on the YouTube Homepage and automatically refresh with new, relevant suggestions. The key benefit is preventing different viewing interests from cross-pollinating and influencing the recommendations on a user's main Home feed.

Rollout Details and Future Plans

Custom Feeds are expected to launch this fall for users in the United States across mobile apps, the web platform, and TV interfaces. The announcement was made alongside other updates at the Made On YouTube 2026 event, which included tools like conversational editing and video A/B testing for creators.

While the feature will initially be available in the US, YouTube and Google have not yet provided a specific launch date or a timeline for its introduction in other international regions, including India.
