· · 3 min read

The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) condemned the detention of YouTuber Dhruv Rathee by Delhi Police from his Gurugram residence, alleging a government crackdown on dissent. The party organized a protest at Jantar Mantar, demanding his immediate release and that of other activists.

YouTuber Dhruv Rathee Detained Ahead of Protest

The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) today strongly condemned the detention of prominent YouTuber Dhruv Rathee by the Delhi Police. Rathee was reportedly taken from his Gurugram residence, a move the CJP described as "high-handed" and part of an "aggressive, citywide crackdown to curb dissent." The party claims approximately 50 police personnel, many in civilian attire, were involved in the detention.

Rathee was expected to participate in a CJP protest at Jantar Mantar against Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar. The protest focuses on allegations of voter-list manipulation during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls and changes to Form 6, which is used for voter registration.

CJP Issues 12-Point Briefing for Protestors

In response to the detentions and ahead of the planned demonstration, the CJP issued a comprehensive 12-point briefing for its protestors. The guidelines emphasized maintaining peace, avoiding violence, and protecting both public and private property. Protestors were explicitly instructed not to carry weapons, engage in physical confrontations, or attempt to forcibly breach police barricades.

The advisory also urged demonstrators to verify information before sharing it, responsibly document any incidents, and assist fellow participants in reaching safety if tensions escalate. Furthermore, protestors were advised to carry essential information, necessary medications, and fully charged phones, while strictly following police instructions during interactions. "No individual can be allowed to hijack a peaceful protest. Our conduct must reflect our cause," the party stated, underscoring its commitment to peaceful and constitutional protest.

Founder Abhijeet Dipke Challenges Authorities

Amidst the unfolding events, CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke arrived in Delhi, openly challenging authorities to arrest or detain him. Before his arrival, Dipke declared his unwavering commitment to fighting for free and fair elections, stating, "If they want to detain or arrest me, let them go ahead. Invoke the UAPA, invoke the NSA — go ahead and do it. But we will keep fighting for free and fair elections and to save this country's democracy."

Dipke also criticized the government for allegedly preventing citizens and young people from participating in the protest, citing disruptions to transport services, internet restrictions, and police visits to residents' homes. He reiterated that protesting peacefully is a fundamental right guaranteed by Article 19 of the constitution.

Heightened Security Across Delhi

Security measures have been significantly ramped up across Delhi, particularly at border areas like Apsara Border. Delhi Police, in coordination with UP Police, has deployed heavy security, established border pickets, and implemented vehicle checks. Drones, CCTV cameras, and body cameras are being utilized for monitoring and recording activities to maintain vigilance and ensure law and order.
