Almora Innovator Ravi Tamta Test-Flies India's Electric HAPIDA SKYNeX Flying Car

· · 2 min read

Ravi Tamta, an innovator from Almora, Uttarakhand, successfully test-flew the HAPIDA SKYNeX, a single-seater electric personal flying vehicle. This prototype aims to enhance connectivity and emergency response in the challenging Himalayan region.

An innovator from Almora, Uttarakhand, has achieved a significant milestone in India's advanced air mobility sector. Ravi Tamta, founder of Hapida Sky Private Limited, successfully conducted the first test flight of the HAPIDA SKYNeX, a single-seater, fully electric personal flying vehicle prototype.

The groundbreaking test flight reportedly took place on August 7, 2026. Tamta, who hails from Kaflikhan village near Jageshwar Dham, has dedicated approximately 13 years to the development of this indigenous vehicle.

A Vision for Himalayan Connectivity

The HAPIDA SKYNeX is specifically designed to address the unique challenges of the Himalayan region, particularly its difficult terrain and often poor road connectivity. Unlike many global flying vehicle concepts primarily focused on urban commuting, the SKYNeX aims to provide vital applications in remote-area access and emergency response.

  • Accessibility: If certified, the vehicle could significantly improve access to isolated villages.
  • Disaster Relief: It offers potential for faster relief operations during natural disasters like landslides and floods, which frequently disrupt road transport in Uttarakhand.

This electric vehicle boasts zero tailpipe emissions, distinguishing its propulsion system from experimental flying vehicles that rely on conventional aviation fuels or ethanol-based alternatives.

Praise and Future Outlook

Following the successful flight, both Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami and Union Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu Kinjarapu publicly congratulated Tamta, acknowledging the innovation's potential.

— Pushkar Singh Dhami (August 7, 2026)

Despite this promising prototype flight, the HAPIDA SKYNeX is still far from commercial availability. Extensive additional steps are required, including:

  1. Thorough flight testing and structural integrity checks.
  2. Comprehensive battery safety assessments and performance validation.
  3. Securing regulatory approval from India’s aviation authorities.

Details such as the vehicle’s operational range, payload capacity, flight duration, maximum altitude, and charging requirements have not yet been disclosed. Consumers should exercise caution regarding any reports or online claims suggesting a confirmed price or imminent launch, as transforming a working prototype into a safe, certified, and operational aircraft typically demands several more years of rigorous testing and regulatory evaluation.
