Assam Boost: Air India Launches Direct Guwahati-Dubai & Abu Dhabi Flights

· · 2 min read

Air India will launch direct flights from Guwahati, Assam, to Dubai and Abu Dhabi starting August 4. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced the new routes, aiming to enhance Assam's global connectivity and position Guwahati as a key regional hub.

Air India is set to significantly boost Assam's international air connectivity with the launch of direct flights from Guwahati to Dubai and Abu Dhabi. Operations for these new routes will commence on August 4, as announced by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.

Guwahati's Expanding Global Reach

The new non-stop services to the United Arab Emirates are a pivotal step in connecting Assam more closely with the global community. Chief Minister Sarma emphasized that these flights would open fresh avenues for business, tourism, and the Assamese diaspora, reinforcing Guwahati's strategic importance as a travel and transit hub for Southeast Asia.

Currently, with the addition of the UAE routes, Guwahati airport now offers direct connectivity to four countries: the UAE, Thailand, Singapore, and Bhutan. Sarma also revealed his next objective: to establish direct flight services to Vietnam, further expanding the state's international footprint.

Confidence Boost for Assam

This announcement comes shortly after several European Union member states revised their travel advisories, removing restrictive guidance for citizens visiting Assam. Chief Minister Sarma described this revision as a "strong vote of confidence" in the state, attributing it to recent visits by EU diplomats. He anticipates that this positive development, coupled with enhanced air links, will deepen engagement between Assam and European countries, fostering stronger tourism, business, and people-to-people ties.

The Assam government views both the easing of travel advisories and the initiation of direct international flights as crucial moves to expand the state's global presence and attract greater economic and tourism opportunities.
