Astral Stock Hits 52-Week Low After Q2 Earnings Miss, Margins Contract

· · 3 min read

Astral Ltd. shares fell 12% to a new 52-week low of Rs 1216.25 after its Q2 FY27 net profit declined 5.9% and EBITDA margins contracted significantly. The company announced an interim dividend of Rs 1.50 per share.

Shares of Astral Ltd., a prominent Indian building materials manufacturer, plummeted 12% to a fresh 52-week low of Rs 1216.25 in early trading on November 6, 2026. This sharp decline followed the announcement of the company's second-quarter financial results for the fiscal year 2026-27, which revealed a contraction in profitability despite robust revenue growth.

The company's market capitalization fell to Rs 32,936 crore as investors reacted to the earnings report. The primary factor cited for the stock's poor performance was a significant fall in EBITDA margins, which dropped to 13.1% in Q2 FY27 from 16.3% in the corresponding quarter of the previous year.

Q2 FY27 Financial Highlights

Astral reported a consolidated net profit of Rs 127 crore for the second quarter, marking a 5.9% year-on-year decline from Rs 135 crore in Q2 FY26. This dip in profit occurred despite a strong 26.1% increase in revenue from operations, which rose to Rs 1,988 crore compared to Rs 1,577 crore a year ago.

EBITDA (Earnings Before Interest, Taxes, Depreciation, and Amortization) saw only marginal growth, increasing by 1.6% to Rs 261 crore from Rs 257 crore in the year-ago period. However, the EBITDA margin contracted sharply, indicating pressure on profitability due to factors such as a delay in passing through higher input costs.

The company's board also approved an interim dividend for the financial year 2026-27 at the rate of Rs 1.50 per share of face value Rs 1 each. The record date for determining eligible shareholders for this dividend payment has been set for Friday, November 13, 2026.

Analyst Outlook and Price Targets

Brokerage firms have offered varied perspectives on Astral's stock performance. JPMorgan maintains an 'overweight' stance on the stock with a target price of Rs 1635. The firm noted that Astral's 19% year-on-year volume growth, while reasonable, might have been slightly softer than market expectations, particularly given strong real estate demand commentary from peers.

JPMorgan also highlighted that while margin compression in the adhesives and paints segment was anticipated, the decline in 'Pipe' EBITDA to Rs 31/kg from Rs 35/kg quarter-on-quarter and year-on-year was a negative surprise. Despite management's assurances of margin recovery in Q3 due to completed price escalations, the Q2 print was considered disappointing.

Conversely, CLSA has a 'hold' recommendation on Astral, setting a target price of Rs 1460. CLSA's analysis suggested that Q2 EBITDA missed estimates primarily due to significantly lower margins, although piping volume growth was in line. They attribute lower profitability to delayed pass-through of increased input costs. With recent price hikes in Q3 and resilient volumes, CLSA anticipates a stronger earnings trajectory for the next quarter.
