Travelers planning to reach India's capital on October 10, 2026, face significant disruptions as Indian Railways has announced the cancellation of numerous Mail and Express train services. The affected trains were scheduled to arrive at New Delhi and Hazrat Nizamuddin railway stations between 4 AM and 2 PM on the specified date.
Anticipated Congestion Prompts Cancellations
The decision to cancel these services stems from the likelihood of severe traffic congestion in the areas surrounding both major railway hubs. Authorities are taking precautionary measures ahead of a proposed protest by the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP), which is slated for October 10.
According to a railway order issued on October 9, trains departing their originating stations after 2 PM on October 9 and scheduled to arrive at either New Delhi or Hazrat Nizamuddin between 4 AM and 2 PM on October 10 will be cancelled at their source. Passengers are strongly advised to check their train status before commencing their journeys.
Police Deny Permission for CJP Protest
The CJP, along with some student organizations, had planned a demonstration against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar at Jantar Mantar. However, Delhi Police have explicitly denied permission for this protest.
Joint Commissioner of Police, New Delhi range, Nupur Prasad, stated that the application for permission was submitted on October 7, falling short of the required 10-day advance notice. Furthermore, Deputy Commissioner of Police Shrishti Pandey confirmed that Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita is in effect across the New Delhi district, prohibiting any unauthorized gatherings.
“Section 163 is in effect, meaning protests are not permitted—neither at Jantar Mantar nor anywhere else. Any gathering will be considered illegal, and we would be compelled to take necessary legal action against it,” Pandey told ANI.
Police have urged the public not to participate in the proposed demonstration, warning of potential long-term legal consequences for those involved in unauthorized protests.
Metro Restrictions Also Under Consideration
In addition to railway disruptions, authorities are also weighing potential restrictions or the complete closure of approximately 40 Metro stations situated in and around sensitive areas of the city. This move mirrors similar actions taken during a CJP protest in July, which saw 16 Metro stations temporarily shut down. Passengers are advised to monitor official announcements regarding Metro services for October 10.
