Delhi's New Online Liquor App: Book for Diwali, But No Home Delivery

· · 2 min read

Delhi has launched a new app allowing residents to book and pay for liquor online, aimed at easing Diwali shopping queues. However, the service requires in-person collection from DSIIDC outlets within 48 hours, as home delivery is not an option.

The Delhi government has recently introduced a new mobile application allowing residents to browse, select, and pay for liquor online, a move intended to streamline purchases ahead of festivals like Diwali. While this digital upgrade promises to reduce the notorious long queues outside liquor shops, there's a significant catch: the service does not include home delivery.

Online Booking, In-Person Collection

The Delhi State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation (DSIIDC) is behind the 'Delhi Liquor Booking' app. This platform facilitates advance bookings and online payments, enabling customers to check brand availability, choose specific outlets, and select bottle sizes and quantities from their smartphones.

Upon successful payment, users receive a unique QR code. This code is essential for collecting the order in person from the selected DSIIDC-managed outlet. It's crucial to note that this facility is currently available at DSIIDC's 208 outlets only, not across all government-run liquor stores in Delhi.

Why the New System?

DSIIDC launched this digital booking system with several goals in mind:

  • To significantly reduce physical queues at liquor vends.
  • To alleviate pressure on billing counters during peak times.
  • To enhance transparency in pricing and billing.
  • To allow customers to verify stock availability in advance.

The system is designed purely for reservation; home delivery services are explicitly not offered. Customers must collect their pre-paid orders within 48 hours of booking.

Key Rules and Restrictions

Before using the Delhi online liquor booking app, potential users should be aware of specific eligibility and purchase rules:

  • Minimum Age: The app is restricted to individuals aged 25 years and above.
  • Purchase Limits: Existing limits on alcohol purchases remain in effect. Customers can buy up to 9 litres of whisky and 18 litres of beer per person.
  • Cancellations and Returns: Orders can be cancelled before collection. However, once an order has been sold or collected, returns are not permitted.

This initiative represents a step towards modernizing liquor sales in the capital, offering convenience for advance planning, but firmly maintaining the requirement for physical collection.
