Dhanteras 2026 Sales Expected to Hit ₹1 Lakh Crore; Gold & Silver Up 10%

· · 3 min read

Dhanteras 2026 retail sales are projected to reach ₹1 lakh crore nationwide, with gold and silver purchases alone estimated at ₹66,000 crore, a 10% increase year-over-year. Consumers are adapting to higher prices by opting for lightweight jewelry and silver coins.

Dhanteras 2026 is poised to shatter retail records, with industry projections estimating nationwide sales to exceed ₹1 lakh crore. This remarkable spending surge comes despite elevated inflation and rising prices for precious metals, underscoring the enduring cultural significance of the festival.

The Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) forecasts that total festive business across all retail categories will comfortably surpass the ₹1 lakh crore milestone. Within this massive economic footprint, the precious metals sector remains a dominant driver. The All India Jewellers and Goldsmith Federation (AIJGF) projects that gold and silver trading alone will account for ₹66,000 crore in business, marking a substantial 10% year-over-year increase.

Shifting Consumer Buying Patterns

Retail patterns reveal a strategic evolution in buyer behavior. Instead of reducing festive purchases entirely due to higher per-gram prices, consumers are recalibrating their choices towards value-optimized items. This adaptability allows them to maintain the auspicious tradition of buying precious metals without overextending their budgets.

Popular Choices This Dhanteras:

  • Lightweight Gold Jewellery: The demand for heavy, high-karat pieces has shifted towards functional, daily-wear 14-carat and 18-carat gold jewellery. This enables buyers to acquire gold while managing costs.
  • Silver Coins and Tokens: Silver demand has seen a significant spike, with many families opting for pure silver coins, bars, and traditional utensils. These items are viewed as both long-term wealth assets and auspicious festive gifts.
  • Auspicious Figurines: Decorative articles featuring traditional luck and wealth motifs, such as sacred figurines of fish, tortoises, and elephants, are experiencing unprecedented demand across all market tiers.

Auspicious Timings for Purchases

The practice of acquiring gold, silver, utensils, and metallic assets on Dhanteras is deeply rooted in the belief that such purchases during auspicious astrological alignments invite lasting prosperity and good fortune. Shoppers often align their store visits with specific Panchang schedules to maximize these blessings.

According to calculations from the New Delhi Panchang, key auspicious time slots for purchasing precious metals during this Dhanteras cycle include:

  • Primary Buying Muhurat: The main gold-buying window opens at 10:30 AM on November 6 and continues through the night until 6:37 AM on November 7.
  • Secondary Window: For those making purchases on the following morning, a favorable Choghadiya shopping window is available on November 7 from 7:59 AM to 9:21 AM, within the remaining Trayodashi Tithi.

Retailers in major cities and regional hubs have extended operating hours to accommodate the continuous flow of shoppers during these designated periods. Buyers are advised that these shopping muhurats are distinct from the evening Lakshmi-Kubera puja timings, and exact auspicious windows may vary slightly based on local sunrise and planetary alignments.
