Hyperscaler Capex Surge: What It Means for Indian IT Stocks and Targets

· · 2 min read

Amazon, Google, and Microsoft are significantly increasing capital expenditure, primarily in data centers and GPUs. While this hints at a multi-year pipeline for Indian IT, an Antique Stock Broking report notes a lag in monetization and recommends 'Buy' for Coforge and Mphasis.

Major hyperscale cloud providers, including Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft Azure, and Google Cloud Platform (GCP), have substantially ramped up their capital expenditure in recent quarters. This surge, primarily directed towards capacity building in GPUs, data centers, and cloud networks, is expected to create a significant, multi-year pipeline for enterprise workloads that Indian IT services companies can eventually monetize.

Hyperscaler Growth and Investment

According to Antique Stock Broking, all three hyperscalers reported robust growth and substantial backlogs. Google Cloud's revenue jumped 82% year-over-year to $25 billion, with its backlog increasing by $50 billion sequentially to reach $514 billion. AWS recorded its fastest growth in 18 quarters at 37% year-over-year, marking the fifth consecutive quarter of acceleration, with its backlog standing at $496 billion. Microsoft's Azure grew 43% year-over-year, pushing Microsoft Cloud revenue to $59 billion, with full-year Azure revenue surpassing $100 billion.

Impact on Indian IT Services

Despite the massive infrastructure spending by hyperscalers, Indian IT firms face a time lag before this translates into direct application development, integration, and AI-adoption work—the areas from which they generate revenue. Antique noted that while hyperscalers are investing heavily, they are also pressuring Indian IT partners for lower prices in the near term as they focus on capacity building.

For large Indian IT firms, organic revenue growth has been flat or decelerating, with management teams citing ongoing macro uncertainty as a significant headwind. Discretionary projects are being deferred, decision cycles have lengthened, and specific shocks, such as the Middle East conflict or budget stress in the US healthcare sector, are adding to the pressure.

Stock Recommendations and Targets

Antique Stock Broking maintains a 'Hold' stance on several large-cap IT services companies, including Infosys Ltd, Tata Consultancy Services Ltd (TCS), Wipro Ltd, HCL Technologies Ltd, and Tech Mahindra Ltd. However, the brokerage is selective on mid-caps, identifying Coforge and Mphasis as preferred names with 'Buy' recommendations.

  • Infosys: Target of Rs 1,115
  • TCS: Target of Rs 2,385
  • HCL Tech: Target of Rs 1,225
  • Wipro: Target of Rs 190
  • Tech Mahindra: Target of Rs 1,475
  • Coforge: 'Buy' rating with a target of Rs 2,000
  • Mphasis: 'Buy' rating with a target of Rs 2,925

Analyst Outlook

The brokerage emphasizes that accelerating hyperscaler growth and record backlogs indicate a large, multi-year pipeline of enterprise workloads still awaiting migration, integration, and management. This segment is where Indian IT partners will eventually find significant monetization opportunities, though the conversion of infrastructure spending to application demand typically lags by several quarters.
