Hyundai Motor India reported that sunroof-equipped vehicles accounted for 57% of its FY26 sales, with automatic transmissions crossing 24%. This surge reflects a strong customer preference for premium features and SUVs in the Indian market.

Hyundai Motor India Ltd. has announced a significant shift in consumer preferences, with sunroof-equipped models comprising 57% of its sales in the fiscal year 2026. This marks a substantial increase, indicating that features once considered luxury are now becoming mainstream for Indian car buyers. Additionally, vehicles with automatic transmissions made up over 24% of sales, further highlighting the growing demand for convenience and premium amenities.

Premium Features Drive Market Growth

Dong Huwy Park, Whole-time Director and COO of Hyundai Motor India, emphasized the company's commitment to 'premiumisation'. He stated in the carmaker's Annual Report 2025-26, "Premiumisation remains a key focus. We take pride in our continued effort to democratise premium features across models, driving higher adoption, with sunroof penetration close to 57% and automatic transmission at over 24%." This strategy aims to make advanced features accessible across a broader range of models.

SUV Segment Leads the Charge

SUVs continue to be a dominant force in Hyundai's domestic sales, accounting for 68% in FY26. The popular Creta played a pivotal role in this growth, with its combined domestic and export sales, including the Creta Electric, exceeding 208,000 units in FY26. This achievement made it the highest annual sales ever recorded by a mid-size SUV in India.

Future Outlook and Strategic Launches

Looking ahead, Hyundai Motor India has ambitious plans to maintain its market momentum. The company intends to launch 26 new models, full model changes, derivatives, facelifts, product enhancements, and new nameplates between 2025 and 2030. This roadmap includes the introduction of two all-new SUV nameplates by FY27: a localized mass-market electric SUV and a new internal combustion engine (ICE) SUV.

Tarun Garg, MD & CEO, Hyundai Motor India, commented on the company's evolving vision: "HMIL is also steadily evolving towards becoming a smart mobility solutions provider, aligned with India’s changing mobility needs, with a growing focus on SUVs in response to customer preferences and the advancement in eco-friendly powertrains and premiumization for the masses." The company also achieved an impressive 83% overall localization level at the OEM level in FY26, reinforcing its commitment to the Indian market.
