Mumbai, India – Jio Studios, the content arm of Reliance Industries Limited (RIL), has achieved a landmark success, propelled to the top spot among Indian content studios by its blockbuster 'Dhurandhar' film franchise. RIL Chairman & Managing Director Mukesh Ambani announced in a letter to shareholders that the franchise has amassed over ₹3,000 crore in gross revenue worldwide, capturing an unprecedented 40%+ share of India's box office.
'Dhurandhar' Franchise: A Cinematic Phenomenon
The success stems from two spy action thrillers, 'Dhurandhar' and its sequel, 'Dhurandhar: The Revenge'. Produced with an estimated combined budget of ₹350 crore, these films have not only set new benchmarks but also demonstrated Jio Studios' consistent leadership in the industry. Ambani highlighted that Jio Studios has now produced the highest-grossing film for three consecutive years, with 'Stree 2' in 2024, 'Dhurandhar' in 2025, and 'Dhurandhar: The Revenge' in 2026.
Innovative Release Strategy Rewrites History
The release strategy for the 'Dhurandhar' franchise was particularly innovative. The first part premiered last December, followed closely by the sequel in March. Ambani noted this as an unprecedented move, stating, “Never before in the world, let alone India, had a film franchise been conceived, financed and shot as two parts and released so close to each other.” This conviction, he added, disrupted the traditional storytelling landscape and created cinematic history.
The original 'Dhurandhar' film created a record as the highest-grossing Indian film of all time, enjoying an extraordinary 15-week run before its highly anticipated sequel took over, smashing even its predecessor's records.
