Maruti Suzuki India Limited has achieved a significant milestone, announcing on October 29 that it has cumulatively exported over 50,000 made-in-India electric vehicles. This accomplishment comes just over a year after the company began its global EV shipments in August 2025, reinforcing its status as India’s leading exporter of electric passenger vehicles.
According to data from the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), Maruti Suzuki accounted for nearly 93% of India's electric passenger vehicle exports between April and September 2026. The company also held the top spot as India's largest EV exporter for the full fiscal year 2025-26.
India's Manufacturing Prowess on Display
Hisashi Takeuchi, Managing Director and CEO of Maruti Suzuki, highlighted that this export achievement reflects the robust scale and competitiveness of Indian manufacturing. He recalled that the Prime Minister Narendra Modi had commemorated the start of production of the e-VITARA at the Hansalpur facility in August 2025, an event where Maruti Suzuki was lauded as a "brand ambassador of the ‘Make in India’ initiative."
Currently, Maruti Suzuki exports its electric vehicles to nearly 50 countries worldwide. The company's global reach underscores India's advanced manufacturing capabilities and its growing presence in the international automotive market.
Europe Leads International Demand
Europe emerged as the inaugural overseas market for Maruti Suzuki’s electric vehicles and continues to be its largest export destination. The company's EVs are now shipped to various European nations, including the United Kingdom, Norway, and Germany, alongside other key markets like Japan and Switzerland.
Hansalpur Plant: A Global Production Hub
The Hansalpur plant in Gujarat serves as the exclusive manufacturing base for Suzuki’s first global battery electric vehicle. This facility has recently expanded its annual production capacity to one million vehicles, making it the first Suzuki plant globally to reach such a capacity at a single location. Maruti Suzuki has invested a substantial ₹25,288.7 crore in the Hansalpur plant, which played a critical role in the company's export strategy by accounting for nearly half of its total overseas shipments in FY2025-26.
Beyond electric vehicles, Maruti Suzuki has maintained its position as India’s largest passenger vehicle exporter for five consecutive years. During April–September 2026, it held over 50% of India’s total passenger vehicle export share, shipping 16 different models to approximately 120 countries. The success in EV exports further propels India's ambition to become a global manufacturing and export hub for clean mobility solutions.
