· · 3 min read

Motherson Sumi Wiring India's shares jumped 13% after its Q2 revenue surged 47% year-over-year, beating estimates. At least 12 brokerages issued 'Buy' ratings, with price targets suggesting up to 71% potential upside.

Shares of Motherson Sumi Wiring India Ltd (MSUMI) experienced a significant rally on Monday, climbing 13% following the announcement of robust second-quarter financial results. The company's Q2 revenue surged an impressive 47% year-over-year, comfortably surpassing Street estimates, driven by improved content per vehicle (CPV) and a partial pass-through of cost inflation.

The strong performance has prompted at least 12 leading brokerages to issue 'Buy' recommendations for the stock. Price targets range from Rs 42 to Rs 60 per share, implying a potential upside of up to 71% from current levels. Nuvama Institutional Equities set the highest target at Rs 60, while Elara Securities' target of Rs 42 still suggests a 20% upside.

Key Drivers of Q2 Performance

Motherson Sumi Wiring India's revenue growth was significantly bolstered by industry megatrends such as premiumisation, electrification, and connected features in vehicles. Nuvama Institutional Equities noted that approximately 12% of the growth was attributed to copper inflation, with the remainder stemming from volume growth and higher CPV. The company's electric vehicle (EV) segment also showed strong momentum, with EV share in revenue increasing to 10% in Q2, up from 8.5% in Q1 and 6.7% in the year-ago quarter.

EBITDA (Earnings Before Interest, Taxes, Depreciation, and Amortization) grew 34% year-over-year, exceeding Nuvama's projections. This beat was primarily due to the strong revenue performance and reduced other expenses, indicating effective cost savings. While the EBITDA margin contracted by 90 basis points year-over-year, it expanded by 160 basis points quarter-over-quarter to reach 9.2%. Profit After Tax (PAT) also saw a substantial increase of 35% for the quarter, outperforming analyst estimates.

Analyst Outlook and Price Targets

JM Financial highlighted that Motherson Sumi Wiring India continues to benefit from industry shifts towards premiumisation and electrification. They anticipate margins to gradually improve through operating leverage and effective price pass-through mechanisms with Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs). The brokerage raised its FY27E EPS by 16% and maintained a 'Buy' rating with a revised target of Rs 47, up from Rs 46.

Elara Securities upgraded the stock to 'Accumulate' with a higher target of Rs 42, citing that medium-term earnings momentum could accelerate with increasing EV penetration and anticipated cost recovery from customers in upcoming quarters. They also noted the compelling valuation.

Choice International increased its FY27 and FY28 EPS estimates by 2.6-3.6% following the strong Q2FY27 results. They retained a target of Rs 44 for Motherson Sumi Wiring and upgraded their rating to 'Buy' from 'Add', considering the recent stock correction, an improving margin outlook, and expected benefits from cost pass-through and operating leverage.

Despite the positive outlook, the stock has corrected 26% over the past 12 months, underperforming the Nifty Auto index by 4%. However, analysts believe the strong operational beat in Q2 should help restore investor confidence.

Emkay maintained a cautious stance, lowering its target by 10% to Rs 45 from Rs 50, despite acknowledging the attractive valuations. They noted that while MSUMI's valuations remain compelling at below -1SD on 1YF PER, with a strong 20% FY27-29E EPS CAGR and healthy return ratios, the high-growth phase might be behind, and macroeconomic risks are increasing.
