Noida's ₹92 Crore Gaur Chowk Underpass Nears Diwali Opening, Promises Major Traffic Relief

· · 2 min read

The 700-meter, six-lane Gaur Chowk underpass in Noida is set to open around Diwali, offering significant relief to commuters. This ₹92 crore project is 95% complete and aims to ease congestion for over five lakh residents.

Commuters navigating the notoriously congested Gaur Chowk junction, which links Noida, Greater Noida West, and Gaur City, are poised for major relief. The new 700-meter, six-lane underpass, built parallel to the Taj Highway, is expected to open for traffic around the Diwali festival.

The Greater Noida Authority has confirmed that the ambitious ₹92 crore project is in its final stages, with approximately 95% of the construction completed and finishing work now underway. While an official inauguration date is yet to be announced, officials anticipate the underpass will be ready by the festive season.

Easing Congestion for Thousands

This critical infrastructure project is designed to bypass the heavily trafficked Gaur Chowk, which serves a vast residential catchment area in Greater Noida West, catering to more than five lakh residents. Daily commuters have long faced significant delays, with even short distances near the junction often taking up to an hour during peak times.

Once operational, the underpass is projected to dramatically reduce waiting times at signals and alleviate pressure on the surrounding road network. It will establish a smoother, more efficient link between Greater Noida, Gaur City, Surajpur, Crossings Republik, and the Delhi-Meerut Expressway.

Boost for Regional Connectivity

The new corridor is expected to particularly benefit residents of key areas such as Gaur City, Noida Extension, Sector 121, and Sector 122, who regularly travel towards Noida, Surajpur, or the expressway. By separating through-traffic from junction-level movement, authorities anticipate a significant reduction in bottlenecks and improved overall travel times.

Deputy General Manager (Civil) Vijay Rawal of the Greater Noida Authority stated that the project will be completed in a few days. The underpass's opening, though delayed from an earlier August 15 target, is now eagerly awaited as one of the most significant traffic-relief initiatives for Noida and Greater Noida West commuters this festive season.
