NSE IPO Closes Today Amid Strong Brokerage Endorsements

The highly anticipated Initial Public Offering (IPO) of the National Stock Exchange of India (NSE) is set to conclude today, Monday, September 21, 2026. A significant majority of brokerage firms, numbering 15, have issued 'subscribe' ratings for the issue, citing NSE as a key proxy for India's robust economic growth story.

Investors have shown considerable interest, with the IPO attracting approximately 20.4 lakh applications by the close of the second day of subscription. Overall, the issue was subscribed 1.22 times, demonstrating strong demand across various investor categories.

Issue Details and Subscription Status

The NSE is offering shares within a price band of Rs 1,700 to Rs 1,785 per equity share, with a lot size of eight shares. The total issue size is substantial, valued at up to Rs 22,562 crore. Notably, the IPO is structured entirely as an Offer for Sale (OFS) by existing shareholders, meaning the proceeds will go to these selling shareholders rather than the company itself.

Specific allocations include 50 percent for Qualified Institutional Bidders (QIBs), 35 percent for retail investors, and 15 percent for Non-Institutional Investors (NIIs). Employees are also eligible for a reservation of shares worth Rs 70 crore, benefiting from a discount of Rs 170 per share. By day two, the NII portion was subscribed 1.83 times, QIBs 1.54 times, and the employee segment 1.63 times, while retail bidders saw 78 percent subscription.

Why Brokers Recommend 'Subscribe'

Brokerage firms have expressed a largely positive outlook on the NSE IPO, highlighting several compelling reasons for their 'subscribe' recommendations. Key factors include NSE's dominant market share—boasting 93 percent in cash equities and 99.8 percent in equity futures—alongside its deep liquidity, strong competitive moat, and vertically integrated business model.

Analysts also point to the exchange's high operating margins, robust technology infrastructure, negligible conventional debt, and strong cash generation capabilities. The valuation discount compared to BSE, the long-term potential for financialisation in India, and the expanding investor ecosystem further bolster the positive sentiment for long-term investors.

Key Dates and Listing Information

Following the close of subscription today, the basis of allotment for the NSE IPO is expected to be finalized on Tuesday, September 22. The shares are slated to list exclusively on BSE Ltd later this week, with the provisional listing date set for Thursday, September 24.

NSE's Market Dominance and Financial Health

Incorporated in 1992, the National Stock Exchange has grown to become India's largest stock exchange and a leading multi-asset exchange platform globally. It operates across a wide spectrum of asset classes, including equities, derivatives, currency derivatives, commodities, and debt securities, offering services from trading and clearing to market data and index services.

Financially, NSE reported a net profit of Rs 3,120.08 crore on a total income of Rs 5,252.17 crore for the quarter ended June 30, 2026 (Q1FY27). For the fiscal year ending March 31, 2026 (FY26), the company recorded a net profit of Rs 10,302.06 crore and a total income of Rs 18,713.37 crore, underscoring its strong financial performance and market position.
