Prime Minister Narendra Modi has laid the foundation stone for three major National Highway projects in Gujarat, valued at approximately ₹1,780 crore. These initiatives aim to boost connectivity, ease congestion, and enhance freight movement across South Gujarat.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has laid the foundation stone for significant National Highway projects in Gujarat, part of a larger infrastructure package worth over ₹35,000 crore for the state. The three highway projects alone represent an investment of around ₹1,780 crore, targeting improved regional connectivity, reduced congestion, and more efficient movement of goods and passengers across South Gujarat.

Boosting Connectivity and Safety

Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari welcomed the projects, emphasizing their role in strengthening regional connectivity and making travel faster, safer, and more efficient. In a post on X, Gadkari highlighted the Prime Minister's commitment to India's infrastructure, stating that these projects would significantly enhance mobility and the industrial and economic potential of South Gujarat.

Key Highway Upgrades

  • NH-48 (Kamrej–Chalthan section): The 6-laning of the 13.8-km Kamrej–Chalthan section of NH-48 is set to strengthen connectivity between Kamrej, Chalthan, and the Surat region. This expansion will significantly increase traffic capacity, ensuring smoother and more efficient movement for both commuters and freight.
  • Additional Structures on NH-48 (Vadodara–Surat section): Foundation stones were also laid for new major bridges over the Tapi and Narmada rivers along the Vadodara–Surat section of NH-48. These crucial additions will bolster the highway network, addressing capacity bottlenecks and facilitating seamless traffic flow along this vital economic corridor.
  • Grade-Separated Junctions on NH-53: The construction of grade-separated structures at Abhava, Mindhola, and Khajod Junctions on NH-53 is designed to enhance road safety and traffic efficiency. By eliminating conflicts at these key intersections, the projects will enable uninterrupted movement, crucial for busy urban and industrial areas.

These infrastructure developments are expected to create greater opportunities for businesses and communities, reinforcing the region's industrial and economic capabilities.
