Protean eGov Shares Surge 20% to Upper Circuit; Analysts See Potential Upside

· · 2 min read

Protean eGov shares hit their 20% upper circuit at Rs 588.05 on Monday. The surge follows recent underperformance, with analysts suggesting value buying and potential for further gains despite a Q1 FY27 net profit decline.

Shares of Protean eGov Technologies Ltd experienced a significant rally on Monday, surging 20% to reach their upper price band of Rs 588.05. This sharp increase comes after the stock had been under considerable pressure, reflecting a broader downtrend for the company in recent months.

Why the Surge?

Market observers attribute the sudden uptick to renewed investor interest. Kranthi Bathini, Equity Strategist at WealthMills Securities, noted that "some kind of value buying is emerging in Protean eGov after a long underperformance." Bathini suggested that investors with a long-term horizon might consider holding onto the stock.

Ravi Singh, Chief Research Officer at Master Capital Services, highlighted a strong pullback from near the stock's 52-week lows, accompanied by a significant rise in trading volumes. Singh stated, "The stock is sustaining the circuit, while improving volume activity supports the positive technical setup." He anticipates further upside, potentially towards the Rs 610 level, provided sustained volume activity continues.

However, AR Ramachandran, a Sebi-registered research analyst at Tips2trades, offered a cautious perspective. While acknowledging the stock's bullish momentum, he warned that it appears "overbought on daily charts" with the next resistance at Rs 621. Ramachandran advised investors to consider booking profits, noting that a daily close below the support level of Rs 551 could trigger a fall towards Rs 493 in the near term.

Q1 FY27 Financial Overview

The recent share surge occurs despite a mixed financial performance report for the first quarter of FY27. Protean eGov Technologies reported a substantial 75% year-on-year (YoY) decline in consolidated net profit after tax (PAT), falling to Rs 6 crore from Rs 24 crore in the corresponding period last year.

Consolidated EBITDA also saw a significant drop, declining 38% YoY to Rs 28 crore in Q1 FY27 from Rs 45 crore in Q1 FY26. In contrast, the company's consolidated revenue from operations showed positive growth, rising 19% YoY to Rs 251 crore during the quarter, up from Rs 211 crore in the year-ago period.
