Toyota Kirloskar Motor's Dividends to Parent Surge to ₹5,652 Crore in FY26

· · 2 min read

Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) significantly increased its dividend payouts to Japanese parent Toyota Motor Corporation, reaching ₹5,652 crore in FY26. This marks a substantial jump from ₹87 crore five years prior, reflecting strong performance.

Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM), the Indian joint venture responsible for popular models like the Fortuner SUV, has reported a significant surge in dividend payouts to its Japanese parent, Toyota Motor Corporation. According to a recent report by Mint, these payouts escalated dramatically from ₹87 crore five years ago to an impressive ₹5,652 crore for the fiscal year 2026.

Massive Dividend Growth and Royalty Increases

The substantial increase in dividends reflects TKM's robust financial performance. The dividend per equity share saw a remarkable jump, rising from ₹1.26 in FY21 to ₹81 in FY26. These payouts are based on the earnings from the preceding fiscal years, FY25 and FY20 respectively.

In addition to dividends, royalty payments from TKM to its Japanese parent also climbed sharply. These payments increased from ₹337 crore in FY21 to ₹2,112 crore in FY26. When combined, the total financial flow from the Indian arm to Toyota Motor Corporation, which holds an 89% stake in TKM, exceeded ₹7,000 crore in FY26.

Outpacing Competitors in Dividend Distribution

TKM's dividend distribution for FY26, at ₹5,652 crore, surpasses the payouts made by other major Indian automotive players to their foreign parents. For instance, India's largest carmaker, Maruti Suzuki, paid ₹4,244 crore to Japan's Suzuki Motor Group, while Hyundai Motor India disbursed ₹1,706 crore to Korea's Hyundai Motor Company during the same period.

Expansion Plans and Market Position

This financial milestone comes as Toyota continues its expansion efforts in India. The automaker is currently constructing a third manufacturing plant in Bidkin, Maharashtra. This new facility is projected to have an annual production capacity of 100,000 units for a new SUV model and is slated to commence operations in the first half of 2029.

Toyota Kirloskar Motor currently operates two plants in Bidadi, Karnataka, which have a combined annual capacity of 342,000 units. These facilities produce a range of vehicles, including the Innova HyCross, Innova Crysta, Fortuner, Legender, Camry Hybrid, Urban Cruiser Hyryder, and Hilux.

TKM has solidified its position as India’s fifth-largest carmaker by volume. This growth is partly attributed to its strategic global partnership with Suzuki, enabling TKM to offer more affordable, rebadged models, while maintaining its strong focus on the popular multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) and sport utility vehicle (SUV) segments.
