Mumbai authorities have detained two individuals, including one allegedly posing as a Prime Minister's Office (PMO) official, at a high-security venue hours before Prime Minister Narendra Modi was set to inaugurate the Global Fintech Fest 2026.
The incident took place on Monday at the Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Centre within the Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC). Rohan Parekh, 24, was reportedly attempting to gain entry to the Jio World Centre with a forged PMO identity card. Security personnel identified the fake credentials during an inspection.
Armed Bodyguard Also Detained
Accompanying Parekh was a bodyguard who was found to be carrying a firearm. Both individuals were immediately detained following the discovery of the forged identification and the weapon.
Mumbai Police confirmed that a case has been registered against Parekh and his bodyguard at the BKC police station. The Crime Branch has now taken over the investigation.
Investigation Underway
Investigators are working to ascertain how the suspects managed to reach such a highly secured area and whether their alleged attempt to enter with a fake ID and a weapon had any direct connection to the Prime Minister's scheduled visit. Prime Minister Modi was slated to inaugurate the Global Fintech Fest 2026 and address attendees at the Jio World Centre.
