Vodafone Idea (Vi) saw its shares climb by 2% in Friday's trading session following the announcement of a groundbreaking new service: free international roaming. This disruptive offering is now available with key postpaid, prepaid, and enterprise plans, fundamentally changing how Vi customers connect abroad.
Vi Redefines Global Connectivity
Traditionally, international roaming has been perceived as an expensive and complicated endeavor, often requiring customers to purchase separate packs, acquire local SIM cards, or rely on travel eSIMs. Vi aims to eliminate these barriers by integrating international roaming as a built-in benefit across its eligible plans.
According to Avneesh Khosla, Chief Marketing Officer at Vi, this initiative marks a significant shift from 'buy roaming when you travel' to 'your Vi number travels with you for free.' The service allows customers and their family members to stay connected across more than 170 countries globally without additional roaming charges.
Eligible Plans and Activation
- Postpaid Plans: Starting from Rs 501.
- Annual Prepaid Unlimited Data Plans: Specific plans qualify.
- Corporate Plans: Starting from Rs 451 for enterprise consumers.
Customers can easily activate these Roam-Free plans through the Vi App, enabling seamless international connectivity during their travels. This move tackles long-standing issues such as juggling multiple SIM cards, missing critical OTPs, or worrying about unexpected roaming bills.

The company emphasizes that this initiative provides peace of mind, allowing users to travel with confidence, knowing their Vi number will keep them connected as per their plan. By 2 PM on Friday, Vodafone Idea shares had reached Rs 14.32 apiece, reflecting a 1.56% increase.
