Everpure, formerly known as Pure Storage, is strategically evolving its business focus from providing traditional data storage solutions to offering comprehensive data management services. This shift is particularly aimed at capitalizing on India's burgeoning digital economy and its significant, yet still developing, artificial intelligence (AI) landscape.
John Colgrove, co-founder and chief visionary officer of Everpure, highlighted India as one of its fastest-growing markets across the Asia-Pacific and Japan (APJ) region. The company currently serves major sectors in India, including telecommunications, banking and financial services, manufacturing, and IT services, working with leading telecom operators and a number of the country's largest enterprises.
India's Data Potential Fuels Everpure's Expansion
The strategic pivot comes as India's data generation continues to surge, contributing nearly 20% of the world's data. However, the nation currently accounts for only about 2% of global data center capacity, signaling immense potential for infrastructure development. This gap presents a significant opportunity for Everpure to move beyond mere storage provision and help enterprises manage, understand, and effectively utilize their vast datasets.
While enterprise AI adoption in India is still in its nascent stages, Colgrove notes a growing demand for higher performance as businesses begin to deploy AI applications. These new workloads often access the same critical data as conventional enterprise operations, requiring more robust and agile data infrastructure.
Agility and Hybrid Solutions for Evolving AI Demands
Colgrove emphasizes the increasing importance of flexibility for businesses evaluating where to run their AI applications. The rapidly changing economics of cloud-based AI services, open-weight models, and on-premises infrastructure make long-term technology commitments challenging. Everpure advises enterprises to remain agile, experimenting with different approaches rather than prematurely committing to a single infrastructure model.
The company also anticipates that hybrid infrastructure will remain crucial, especially for organizations like banks, hospitals, and critical service providers that cannot afford to make essential operations entirely dependent on cloud availability. Everpure is addressing these needs with its energy-efficient technology, Enterprise Data Cloud architecture, and flexible consumption offerings.
Global Innovation, Local Impact
Everpure's commitment to innovation is underscored by its Bengaluru R&D center, established in 2022. This facility is one of three global innovation hubs, alongside Santa Clara in the US and Prague, reflecting the company's significant investment in research and development—around 19-20% of its global revenue. The success of Everpure's strategy in India will depend not only on the expansion of data center capacity but also on the speed at which enterprises transition from AI experimentation to full production, adapting their infrastructure to meet these evolving data demands.
