India Enhances Mobility Security with AI Across Airports, Metros & Highways

India is deploying AI-powered security systems across its vast mobility network, including 165 airports and 1.46 lakh km of national highways. These technologies use video analytics and advanced detectors to monitor for threats, traffic violations, and unusual incidents in real time.

India's rapidly expanding mobility infrastructure, encompassing 165 operational airports, 1,155 kilometers of metro lines, and 1.46 lakh kilometers of national highways, is driving a significant shift towards advanced, technology-led security solutions. Authorities are moving beyond conventional screening and manual surveillance to integrate artificial intelligence (AI) for continuous monitoring and threat detection.

AI Revolutionizes Transport Security

According to Kapil Bardeja, Co-founder and CEO of Vehant Technologies, the demand for smarter security systems is paramount. AI-enabled systems are designed to analyze road activity, identify unusual incidents, and generate real-time alerts, significantly enhancing the safety and efficiency of India's transport corridors.

Advanced Detection at Airports and Railways

Airports, as critical links in national and international security, are benefiting from advanced AI applications. Technologies such as Explosive Trace Detectors (ETDs) can identify minute traces of prohibited substances, while advanced body scanners detect concealed non-metallic objects. Vehant Technologies has already deployed its AI and security solutions at over 115 airports across India, including major hubs like Chennai, Delhi, Mumbai, and Nagpur.

Intelligent Monitoring for National Highways

The expansion of India's national highway network, which grew 61% from 91,287 km in FY14 to 1,46,566 km by March 2026, necessitates sophisticated monitoring. Intelligent Traffic Management Systems (ITMS) leverage AI to analyze thousands of camera feeds, identifying traffic violations, stopped vehicles, animal crossings, or wrong-way driving incidents. These systems send immediate alerts to command centers, reducing reliance on manual oversight and enabling faster response times.

A key advantage of AI-powered solutions is their ability to integrate with existing surveillance infrastructure. Rather than requiring wholesale replacement of cameras, software and video analytics can add new capabilities, making current systems smarter and more effective.

Supporting Police and Road Safety Initiatives

AI-enabled systems also play a crucial role in supporting state police and enhancing overall road safety. By tracking vehicle movements and identifying vehicles linked to incidents, AI assists in criminal investigations and post-incident analysis. Deployments by Vehant Technologies on the Dwarka Expressway in Delhi-NCR, various Rajasthan highways, Surat Smart City, and the Bengaluru-Mysuru Highway demonstrate the practical application of these solutions.
