Oppo Pad Mini Launches in India: Android's Compact iPad Rival Priced at Rs 94,999

· · 3 min read

Oppo has launched its Pad Mini in India, positioning it as a premium Android competitor to Apple's iPad Mini. Priced at Rs 94,999, the tablet features an 8.8-inch 2.5K OLED display and a Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 processor.

Oppo has officially introduced its Pad Mini tablet in the Indian market, aiming to challenge Apple's long-standing dominance in the compact tablet segment. This new Android device, priced at a premium Rs 94,999, comes equipped with high-end specifications and innovative software features designed to attract users seeking a powerful yet portable experience.

Oppo Pad Mini: Key Specifications and Features

The Oppo Pad Mini boasts an 8.8-inch 2.5K OLED display, featuring an impressive 144Hz refresh rate and up to 3,200 nits peak brightness, promising a vibrant and fluid visual experience. Under the hood, it is powered by the advanced Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 processor, ensuring robust performance for demanding applications and multitasking. The tablet also supports stylus input and is packed with an 8,000mAh battery, complemented by 67W fast charging capabilities. Weighing approximately 282 grams and measuring just 5.46 mm thick, it emphasizes portability and sleek design.

ColorOS 16 and AI Enhancements

Running on ColorOS 16, based on Android 16, the Oppo Pad Mini integrates several productivity and AI-driven features. Its 'Free-Flow Windows' allow users to freely arrange multiple app windows, enhancing multitasking. The 'Circle to Capture' function enables easy dragging of text or images between applications. For multi-device connectivity, it can utilize a nearby Oppo phone's 5G connection without a hotspot, sync calls, messages, and one-time passwords, and facilitate file transfers across Android, iPhone, Mac, and Windows devices.

AI features include intelligent meeting recordings with automated summaries, a three-finger swipe gesture for saving on-screen content, and sketch-to-artwork tools. Oppo plans to further enhance these functionalities with the upcoming ColorOS 17 update, based on Android 17.

Challenging Apple's iPad Mini 8

The Oppo Pad Mini enters the market ahead of Apple's anticipated iPad Mini 8, which is expected to launch between October 28 and 29. The upcoming iPad Mini 8 is rumored to feature a larger display (8.4 to 8.7 inches) and could be powered by Apple's A20 Pro or A19 Pro processor. It is also expected to run on iPadOS 27, bringing improvements to Siri, AI-powered photo editing, a smarter Safari browser, and enhanced search capabilities.

While Apple has refined its iPadOS with features like resizable windows and an improved Files app, Oppo is making a strong push with its Android-based ecosystem. However, the Oppo Pad Mini's high price point of Rs 94,999 positions it in a competitive segment, where it will contend not only with the iPad Mini but also with other premium tablets like the iPad Air and various Samsung Galaxy models. The global memory chip crisis and rising component costs could also impact the pricing of the next iPad Mini, potentially making it more expensive for consumers.
