Meta has launched Muse AI, a personal artificial intelligence agent designed to perform tasks like sending emails, booking travel, and making online purchases. It operates across various apps and services, offering a secure, chat-like interface for users.

Meta Unveils Muse AI: A New Era of Personal Assistance

Meta has introduced Muse AI, a groundbreaking personal artificial intelligence agent designed to streamline daily digital tasks for everyone. This innovative AI empowers users to automate actions such as sending emails, booking travel arrangements, opening websites, filling forms, and even negotiating on their behalf. Built with user accessibility in mind, Muse AI requires no technical expertise, making advanced AI capabilities available to a broad audience.

How Muse AI Operates Across Your Digital Life

Users interact with Muse AI through an intuitive, chat-like interface within the dedicated Muse app. The agent offers personalization options, allowing users to name it, create an avatar, and customize its communication style. Each Muse agent operates within its own virtual computer on Meta's cloud, ensuring a dedicated and separate workspace.

Unlike traditional one-off interactions, Muse AI can be assigned long-term goals, enabling it to plan, organize resources, and work autonomously in the background, even when the app is closed. It only notifies users when changes occur or when approval is required for actions like sending an email or completing a purchase. Examples of its advanced capabilities include assisting in selling a car for a higher price, negotiating lower bills, or modifying fitness and training plans. Currently, Muse leverages Stripe's Link for online purchases, with plans to integrate Shop Pay and 1Password support in the future.

A key feature of Muse AI is its ability to remember details mentioned previously. It can make unprompted suggestions and act on information a user has only provided once, transforming a saved Instagram recipe reel into a grocery list, suggesting a dinner party menu, or recalling friends' dietary restrictions before sending invites. Users also retain control, with the option to instruct Muse to forget specific learned information.

Prioritizing User Privacy and Security

Recognizing the importance of privacy for an agent operating across multiple services, Muse AI employs a privacy-forward approach. It operates inside a dedicated Muse Secure VM (Virtual Machine), which securely stores the agent and connected user data. A separate Sentinel agent is integrated to control internet access and request permissions when necessary.

Crucially, Muse cannot directly access users' passwords or payment details. All credentials are managed through secure storage, allowing Muse to utilize them without ever seeing them. Furthermore, user data stored within its virtual machine is explicitly not shared with Meta’s advertising systems. Meta plans to enhance these protections further with the introduction of Muse Confidential VM later this year, which will encrypt the entire virtual machine, including user data and conversations, with a key held solely by the user.
