OpenAI has rolled out a new tier for its enterprise offering, introducing "Premium seats" for ChatGPT Business. This upgrade is specifically designed to cater to employees who require significantly more artificial intelligence capacity for complex projects and frequent use, offering five times the AI usage compared to standard business accounts.
The move addresses the growing demand from companies leveraging generative AI for a wide range of tasks, from data analysis and marketing campaign creation to software development and improving customer service experiences.
What ChatGPT Business Premium Offers
The primary advantage of ChatGPT Business Premium seats lies in their enhanced usage limits. Users on this plan will benefit from five times the AI usage of Standard users, eliminating the previous five-hour usage cap and ensuring predictable weekly usage resets. For businesses needing even greater capacity, shared workspace credits can also be purchased and managed by the workspace owner.
OpenAI has also implemented greater flexibility for administrators. Companies can now mix both Standard and Premium seats within the same Business workspace. This allows organizations to allocate Premium access strategically to employees with the most demanding AI workloads, while others continue with Standard seats. Administrators also gain the ability to upgrade or reassign seats as business needs evolve, alongside centralized monitoring of usage, billing, and spending limits.
Pricing and Early Adopter Incentive
ChatGPT Business Premium seats are priced at $125 per user per month when billed monthly, or a reduced rate of $100 per user per month with annual billing. In comparison, Standard seats remain at $25 per user per month, or $20 per user per month when billed annually.
To encourage adoption, OpenAI is offering a limited-time incentive for eligible early adopters. The first 10,000 qualifying ChatGPT Business customers can receive $100 worth of workspace credits for every Premium seat they add, up to a maximum of five seats, totaling $500 in credits. To qualify, workspace owners must join a waitlist using their associated ChatGPT Business account email address. This promotional offer concludes on August 20, and some sign-ups may also receive early access before general availability.
This tiered approach provides businesses with greater control over their AI resource allocation, ensuring that high-demand users have the necessary tools without mandating a costly upgrade for the entire team.
