Gulf Oil India Outlines FY27 Growth Plan After Strong Q1 Performance

· · 3 min read

Gulf Oil Lubricants India reported a 31.9% net profit surge in Q1 FY27, with revenue up 30.6%. MD Ravi Chawla detailed an ambitious FY27 roadmap, targeting growth 2-3 times the industry average through capacity expansion, premium products, and new ventures like EV charging and data center cooling.

Gulf Oil Lubricants India Ltd. has kicked off fiscal year 2027 with impressive financial results, posting a significant increase in profit and revenue for the first quarter. Managing Director and CEO Ravi Chawla outlined the company's strategic roadmap, projecting sustained outperformance against the broader lubricant industry.

Robust Q1 Performance Fuels Optimism

For the first quarter of FY27, Gulf Oil Lubricants India reported a standalone net profit of Rs 127.5 crore, marking a substantial 31.9% year-on-year increase. Revenue from operations also saw strong growth, rising 30.6% to Rs 1,327 crore. The company's EBITDA climbed nearly 30% to Rs 166 crore, maintaining margins around 13% despite rising input costs.

Volume growth stood at an impressive 17%, significantly outpacing the industry's estimated 3-4% expansion. This growth was broad-based, driven by healthy demand across automotive, agriculture, and industrial lubricant segments.

Navigating Cost Pressures and Supply Chains

Chawla noted that the strong quarterly performance was achieved amidst a challenging operational environment, including supply chain disruptions stemming from geopolitical tensions in West Asia. He highlighted the company's agility in securing base oil and additive supplies, which enabled uninterrupted deliveries to OEMs, workshops, and infrastructure clients, positioning supply reliability as a key differentiator.

To counteract sharp increases in raw material costs, Gulf Oil implemented multiple price hikes. Management expects raw material prices to remain elevated for some time, influenced by crude oil trends, refinery operations, and shipping logistics, particularly disruptions around the Strait of Hormuz.

Strategic Pillars for Future Growth

Gulf Oil's FY27 roadmap is built on several key growth drivers:

  • Premiumization: A continued focus on high-margin, premium synthetic lubricants.
  • Capacity Expansion: Significant expansion projects at its Silvassa and Chennai plants are slated for completion in Q3 and Q4 FY27. This 70% increase in manufacturing capacity will support expected growth over the next 2-3 years.
  • Electric Mobility: The company's EV charging subsidiary, TAREX, generated approximately Rs 100 crore in revenue last year and has already achieved profitability. TAREX specializes in fast chargers for electric buses and commercial vehicles, with plans to expand into passenger vehicle solutions. Chawla anticipates TAREX's revenue could reach Rs 300-400 crore within three to four years.
  • Data Center Cooling: Gulf Oil is actively developing and discussing liquid cooling solutions for data centers, identifying this as a significant long-term opportunity.
  • Industrial Lubricants: Continued strong execution and growth in the industrial segment.

Eyeing Acquisitions and Innovation

Beyond organic growth, Gulf Oil is also exploring acquisition opportunities in mobility, industrial technologies, and adjacent categories. Following previous investments in TAREX, software platform Electrify, and international mobility business Indra, the company aims to focus on profitable, technology-driven ventures rather than capital-intensive ones.

Overall, Gulf Oil Lubricants India remains confident in its ability to maintain its growth trajectory, leveraging its strong Q1 results, strategic capacity expansion, and diversification into new, high-potential businesses, while vigilantly managing cost pressures.
