Gurugram Crackdown: Bulldozers Demolish Illegal PG, Seal Clinics in DLF Phase-3

· · 3 min read

Gurugram authorities have launched a major enforcement drive in DLF Phase-3, demolishing an illegal 45-room paying guest facility and sealing multiple unauthorized clinics and commercial establishments. This action follows a court-ordered survey revealing over 300 violations.

Gurugram Intensifies Crackdown on Unauthorised Properties

Authorities in Gurugram have intensified a major enforcement drive against illegal constructions and the commercial misuse of residential properties across DLF Phase-3. Over the weekend, demolition teams, supported by a heavy police presence, brought down an illegal 45-room paying guest (PG) facility and sealed numerous establishments operating in violation of building norms and land-use regulations.

Court-Ordered Survey Reveals Widespread Violations

The extensive action is part of a broader crackdown spanning DLF Phases 1 to 5, initiated following a writ petition filed by the DLF Residents' Welfare Association nearly two years ago. A subsequent court-directed survey meticulously examined approximately 5,100 properties, uncovering hundreds of violations. Officials confirmed that DLF Phase-3 alone accounted for more than 300 identified breaches of sanctioned building plans.

The enforcement campaign specifically targets a range of commercial activities operating out of residential premises without the requisite approvals. This includes clinics, guest houses, PG accommodations, gyms, departmental stores, and beauty parlours. Multiple establishments, among them at least three guest houses and several unauthorised clinics, have already been sealed.

Illegal 45-Room PG Demolished in Amaltas Apartments

One of the most significant actions involved the demolition of a massive illegal PG facility located in Amaltas Apartments within DLF Phase-3. The building, originally approved under 'Stilt+4' norms for four families, had been unlawfully converted into a high-density accommodation with 45 rooms, each featuring an attached toilet. Officials stated that each floor was subdivided into numerous rooms, vastly exceeding the permissible occupancy limits.

These extensive alterations placed severe strain on local civic infrastructure, including water, sewage, and electricity networks, while also raising critical safety concerns. Prior to sealing, the electricity connection to the premises was disconnected.

Tenants Face Sudden Eviction

The sealing and demolition actions left dozens of tenants, including students, women, and working professionals, scrambling for alternative accommodation. Videos circulating on social media showed residents carrying luggage and gathering roadside, many claiming they had not been informed by property owners about the official notices. Some confronted authorities on-site, pleading for more time to vacate, highlighting the plight of those caught unaware by the enforcement drive.

Continued Enforcement Expected Across DLF Phases

In addition to targeting commercial misuse, enforcement teams also removed encroachments on government land and common Right of Way (ROW) areas. These illegal structures, which included gardens, guard rooms, gensets, and temporary kiosks, contributed to congestion and infrastructure stress and were cleared using JCB machines.

Authorities have indicated that the enforcement campaign will continue rigorously across DLF Phases 1 to 5. Properties identified with violations and not protected by court stay orders are slated for similar demolition and sealing actions in the coming days, with warnings issued to illegal PGs, guest houses, clinics, gyms, salons, and other commercial establishments operating from residential premises.
